Enjoyed attending the 2nd founding meeting for Silicon Peel - a new high tech community created by the terrific Founders and Organizers of Silicon Halton (Rick Stomphorst & Chris Herbert). Silicon Peel (SP) is in close partnership with the local RIC (Pam Banks and her dedicated staff). Many key players in the local high tech sector attended the SP meeting to brainstorm ideas for the development of SP to meet the needs of IT business owners, IT professionals and promote the ...industry in Peel Region. The event was covered by the local SNAP. Chris and Rick have done a great job in expanding Silicon Halton in the last several yrs. and I look forward to continuing to be involved in both communities. If you are involved in the high tech. industry come out and join us at our next meeting! SP is a group on LinkedIn and they are working on a web site.
Participated as a Career Coach at a career planning event to help post graduate students who will soon graduate from Humber College in Toronto and move onto fulfilling careers. A great crowd and I look forward to many more well-planned events at Humber.
Attended an inspiring event held in Toronto hosted by the National Bank Investment Mgmt Team. W. Brett Wilson was the speaker and he spoke about his lessons in life and business. Brett discussed the importance of teaching entrepreneurism at the Canadian post secondary institutions to meet the needs of a changing and vibrant economy. I completedly agree with him - it's an idea that needs to be explored. I also see where the mass appeal of the internet is motivating more people... to start a business at a young age. It's critical for students in all programs to be better prepared for their new careers by gaining business knowledge before they graduate. Brett is one of Canada’s best-known businessmen and most respected philanthropists. He's also known by many Canadians as one of the dragons on CBC's Dragon's Den a few years ago. I had the opportunity to speak with Brett after the event, which was a special highlight for me.
