Anti-Racism Network

Whitehead is two-spirit and a Oji-nêhiyaw Indigiqueer scholar from Peguis First Nation who conveys the unique experiences of young queer Indigenous people.

"Replacing a place name, a street name, isn't erasing history," she said. "The history is there. But what it does is it makes some space for including additional histories, histories that have been overwritten or erased."

This is sure to be an excellent learning opportunity!

"We need to understand the relationship between poverty and homelessness ... and drug addiction and how this relates to crime."

Dangeli says reuniting and strengthening families was his way of giving back and repairing the damage done by systems of colonization like residential schools.
