This month marks 1 year of bringing GrowCo Postnatal Rehab classes to the Arnprior area! Over this past year I have run NINE sessions, and educated around 43 prenatal and postnatal women both in my practice and through these classes. These women report feeling stronger, having less pain and discomfort, and feeling more in control of their body after completing the 4 week protocol. The class gives them the tools, exercises and knowledge to continue to move their bodies and regain that strength that is so needed in every facet of life. If you, or someone you know had a baby (within the past year ideally - but if you've ever had a baby and not done any intentional healing you are still a candidate) please share this with them so they can experience the change!

Hey mama - we hear you're excited to get back to running! It is important to follow these steps to ensure your body is ready for running, and that you don't end up doing any damage to your pelvic floor or core by returning too soon. I know waiting can seem like a drag, but these steps are put in place to keep YOU healthy! 1. NO PAIN - this is a big one. Pain is your body's way of letting you know that there's something going on, and we need to listen to that in our cruc...ial time for healing. 2. 12 week minimum - this is to allow your tissues to heal and regain their strength before challenging them with such dynamic, intense, and high impact activity (like running). In the mean time work your way up to being able to walk 30 minutes pain free! 3. Have a return to run assessment - this step allows a trained pro to assess your glute strength, your core stability, your ability to engage your pelvic floor, and put you through a series of tests to see if you are ready to run! 4. Knowing the sings to monitor - Pain, leakage (bowel or bladder), heaviness in pelvic floor etc. are some of the signs you should be watching out for to indicate your body just isn't ready yet. Have you noticed that your apps tell you what to expect week by week throughout your pregnancy, and then once the baby is born it shifts to only telling you about the baby? Where is the info on what YOU should be feeling, or what YOU need to heal? While every birth experience is different, there is a spectrum of injury that will be sustained. If we look basic tissue healing science, it makes sense that we approach a post partum patient with the same care & attention and SC...IENCE we would approach our patients with injuries like ankle sprains. Healing is a continuum, and the new tissue laid down by the body continues to mature and respond to you as you strengthen and stress it. Healing has not magically finished after 6 weeks. If we apply this model to a woman who experienced a vaginal birth with significant tearing, a c-section, or think in general about what the core musculature has been through over the past 9+ months, it makes sense that we up level the standard of care we give post partum women, and offer a proper + thorough rehab protocol. There is SO MUCH that we can do to support mom setting her up for both short & long term success See more
