It's so funny to me when friends ask why I occasionally share events and ideas that originate from other planning services. In so many industries and even different metropolitans, these companies are seen as "the competition." I say it's funny because when friends do great work or have innovative ideas, they deserve to be acknowledged! There's no such thing as competition when you're cheering everyone else on. We wanted to take the time to recognize the life of one of our past clients, who was just the nicest man you couldve met. Our clients have a lasting impacts on us, and we carry fond memories from working with each of you. The two members of our team who worked on their celebration together were crushed to hear this news. Despite being in an industry so harshly impacted by this pandemic, we remain steadfast to respect health officials reccomondations and guidelines. Because... despite the business implications, it has impacted the lives of these loved ones so much more. Please take the time to read and pay your respects to a wonderful man.

Im so sorry that the day you have dreamed up for years (decades?) has been tabled, or is facing uncertainty.... I had a charity event that was really close to my heart postpone due to this, and while its not something I had invested the sum of a mortgage down payment on, it hit me pretty hard in the gut. Aside from that, Ive had to postpone or move up more weddings over my career than I can count (seriously, check out our reviews). If anyone gets what youre going though, I do. But whether youre postponing, cancelling, or still unsure given the current climate, we want to use our newfound free time to help. My team and I, together with some local planners from other coordination companies, want to assist in easing your nerves or uncertainties. A message from the Indigo Events family regarding COVID-19 Well its certainly been a whirlwind over the last few weeks. An unprecedented amount of events have cancelled or postponed for the next few months. While we will maintain every effort to continue to serve our clients with the highest level of excellence, the health and safety of our coordinators, decorators, vendor team, consultants, and you - our clients - is always at the forefront of our mission.... For events that have been rescheduled, we will do everything in our power to fully staff these if they now fall on previously booked dates. Note that we cant guarantee which team members will be assigned, as we need reevaluate scheduling, however rest assured they will be managed. Events that have NOT been postponed, will require pre-screening measures to be in place for all staffing, vendors, and guests. We can help you facilitate this. Events deemed to be larger gatherings, we strongly urge to be rescheduled as per provincial guidelines. In the meantime, while the province experiences a period of isolation, so will we. Effective immediately, we will be hosting all meetings with clients over the phone or where video conferencing allows. Similarly, we encourage all clientele to follow suit with their other vendors. Consultations and pre-event meetings will remain on schedule. We understand this may pose as an inconvenience for some. We feel for all of our clients who have had to cancel or postpone incredibly important events, and we fully support your decisions. Without minimizing those who are ill or have died, there are ripple effects from this that have already crippled some family businesses.

The events industry is taking a hard hit with COVID-19. Catering, venues, partners, and vendors, all out of work due to corporate travel bans and government recommendations to avoid gatherings. But why? Do we do this every year for the flu? Im at an event in Toronto yesterday and today so late on the game with this one, but lets dive into Bakeries (literally, can we?), and officiants (oye, figuratively, I promise.) Bakeries, $100-800 What you get for your $$: A beautiful cutting cake, all the way up to a three tiered wedding cake. Or, cupcakes, pastries, cookies, and other delicious baked goods for your sweets table or favours. What youre paying for: Your bakers health inspected kitchen, their appliances, t...heir insurance, their cake tiering items (bases, spools, other supports, etc), their ingredients, their time (hours and hours and hour and hours go into some cakes!), and lastly their talents (because nobody wants to eat an ugly cake!) Officiants, $250-500 What you get: a licenced professional speaker, with skills to keep guests engaged for a half hour, as well as qualifications to actually legally marry you. What youre paying for: Your officiant did not pay $30 to receive a certificate of ordainment. (Im looking at you, Joey Tribbiani.) If they are a religious leader, they went to school, seminary, and dozens of certifications processes. They are members of the clergy and are recognized as being legally able to marry couples. If they arent religious leaders, they are marriage commissioners, judges, justices of the peace or clerks of the court. I have no clue what schooling and experience they have, but Im going to blanket this and say, A LOT. And if theyre neither of those - although this still falls under the clergy title - they took a course under a denomination, and obtained their licence that way. However they must pay dues and this is usually a minimum of $1000 annually. They also fill out the appropriate paperwork and submit your licence documents for you.
