Trails were packed and tracked today. A large hemlock tree fell on to the trails, and that has now been cleaned up. |** Just a heads up for folks skiing the trails- if you can't make it up a hill and need/want to herringbone- please do that OFF the track. Preferably to the outside edge of the trail. When you herringbone on top of the track, you obliterate the track making it difficult for folks that can ski up, to keep their "stride". Thanks everyone

Another GREAT ski at Wensley today. The parking has been pushed open and there are also lots of parking options beside the road just before the parking lot. Snow is sugary! The Jack Rabbit Snowshoe Trail has also been packed open for those of you looking for a different kind of outdoor experience!

Trails were track set this morning except for "The Connector". The club had the parking lot plowed late this afternoon to allow for better parking conditions/options. Enjoy the skiing and the better parking! Thank James and Neil!

The Wensley Creek Cross Country Ski trails have not been groomed since our official 'end of season' - April 1st. There has been some folks skiing on the trails since that time and have experienced variable conditions on the trails. Any day now, the trails will melt out due to mild weather. As always- Ski at your own risk. ** the warming hut and outhouses have been posted Closed, due to the Covid-19 health situation. Please follow guidance given re social distancing!

Its no joke- even though its April 1st today- skiing is great today at Wensley Creek Cross Country Ski Trails. The fresh wet snow we received yesterday has melted out of the trees and there was a bit of corn snow last night. Trails are a little "crusty" this morning but all the litter and ice is currently covered with fresh snow. All the trails have been skied open. So, don't fool around- get out and enjoy some end of season skiing!! Kathy Smith

Trails are open for skiing!! But the facilities are closed- see below: "Recreation Sites and Trails BC’s (RSTBC) number one priority is the health and safety of its staff, partners, volunteers, and visitors. We are following the advice of provincial health experts and are taking steps to support the Province of British Columbia in its effort to limit the spread of COVID-19 in communities and at the provincial level. Effective immediately, RSTBC is temporarily closing recreati...on facilities where there is a risk of increased social contact, contact with frequently touched surfaces (e.g. kiosks, ticket booths, overnight shelters, day use shelters, etc.), and/or where monies are exchanged. RSTBC is also closing or delaying the opening of all campgrounds that charge a fee until further notice. We will continue to monitor the situation and communicate as required." Following the direction from RSTBC, the ALCCSC has posted Closure notices on the Wensley Creek outhouses, the equipment shed and the Taddy Cabin. We have also removed the sign in registrations sheets and pencils and have "opened" the donation drop box. If people choose to use the cross country ski trails, at their own risk, they will no longer be signing in or utilizing the drop in fee (donation) box for safety reasons. If you have any questions or concerns please ask!! Kathy Smith ALCCSC President 250-265-4950 See more

Hello Skiers PLEASE HELP US FUNDRAISE FOR A NEW SNOWMOBILE AND GROOMER! Both our snowmobiles are aged (25 years), fatally broken and/or no longer capable of pulling the equipment needed to groom well. Also, our club groomer can't break up ice to create a safe and enjoyable skiing surface for all conditions. We have paid a rental fee for a volunteer's privately-owned equipment in the past 2 years, - MUCH THANKS Rod! But the club now needs to upgrade the equipment for the seaso...n 2020/2021. Facilitated through Nordiq Canada, until April 2nd (or until they run out of money), they will match dollar for dollar (up to $800) for donations towards our fundraising goal and provide a charitable receipt. For example, for a $50 they will donate $100 to our club. Don't delay, help us meet our fundraising goal and keep the skiing great! Every bit helps! Here is the link for a simple donation process facilitated through Nordiq Canada. Please click here to donate: https://www.canadahelps.org/me/4TWWxfv Many Thanks, ALCCSC

The Kootenay Adaptive Sport Association Access and Inclusion Team attended the Wensley Creek Cross Country Ski Trails this afternoon to complete an accessibility survey. I met up with: Kimberly Joines-Accessibility Supervisor, Wynn Holmberg- Accessibility Coordinator and Janis Neufeld- Senior Project Manager; Infrastructure Development Kootenay Adaptive Sport Association. Kim utilized a XC Sit Ski and with some pulling support from Wynn, was able to ski up to the cabin and back to the parking lot using Hairpin Way as the starting point. It was an educational outing and it appears that parts of the Wensley Ski Trails could be utilized for Adaptive XC Ski use, with a few tweaks of course. Exciting. More news to follow once the assessment/report is completed. Kathy Smith

Hairpin Way- the bottom portion was conditioned and tracks set today with club equipment. Whiskey Jack and the Connector had the tracks re-set today. No work on Ptarmagin today. There are a couple of spots starting to bare off, on the back side of Whiskey Jack. We'll monitor conditions there and eventually, we'll probably have to close a short section of that trail for safety reasons. Lot of snow out there though- probably 2.5 feet on the road (Hairpin) and less in other areas. We;ll keep you posted on trail conditions. With cold nights- the trails will probably freeze in, making for a fast night ski if you are up for the challenge!!

So the skiing has been great up at Wensley Creek but conditions have started to change recently. There are some icy sections on Ptarmagin and Whiskey Jack Trails partially due to last weeks snow melting down through the trees onto the trails followed by freezing overnight. Then again, there is some pretty nice powdery snow in other sections of these same trails and The Connector is great to ski right now as well. With our coming warming trend, tracks will probably get sof...t in the afternoons but the icy areas may stay "icy". Beautiful blue sky sunshine afternoons make for a wonderful outing! We will keep you posted via email or on facebook on trail conditions. Any questions- just ask away!! Its been a great ski season!!

Trails were track set today at Wensley following that "dump" of snow we had yesterday. Most of the snow has now fallen or melted out of the trees.
