#savecanadiancamps I know this has been a challenging year for everyone and with the start of school just over the horizon I wanted to reach out to our Camp Alumni. Summer Camps in Ontario (and Canada) are in a really dangerous position. We have lost our entire's year revenue across the industry with no ability to significantly recover through pivot programming. Here are a couple of straight to the point facts:... the industry predicts that we could see a significant percentage of camps close permanently within the next four months prior to the closure of camps for the summer by the government, camps had already spent 40-60% of their 'predicted' revenue for the upcoming season in keeping camps ready for summer to start the camping industry remains one of the few industries still prohibited to operate by the government to date with this not expected to change until the start of 2021 What can YOU do? PLEASE take the five minutes to write your MP and MPP a letter asking for the government to help the camping industry. There is a form letter bellow that is easy to adjust to your personal style. IF you could include ONE paragraph that makes it personal to you and your camping experience that would go a LONG way. Please do this, we need your help. In addition, please pass this along to ANYONE you know that has felt the impact of CAMP! I cannot express how important this is. Here is the form letter you can tweak: Name and email address of MP: first name dot last [email protected] Dear [name of MP], I am a staff/camper alumni of an Ontario summer camp (*or if you are in Muskoka: located in your constituency). It was incredibly important to my development as a young person. The COVID-19 global pandemic is having a disastrous effect on our camp and all the camps in Ontario. In fact, the camp industry as a whole is facing a perilous situation. Camps are unique because they earn virtually all of their revenue in the summer months while having expenses over a 12-month period. Summertime is the only opportunity that they have to secure revenue in any given year. Because our summer camp was unable to open this year, the results are devastating, not just for me, but also for the children who enjoy the cultural experiences and outdoor education they receive at summer camp, and for the young people they hire every year as camp counsellors. The purpose of writing to you today is to bring to your attention a letter that the Ontario Camp Association, of which our camp is a member, has sent to several Cabinet Ministers, including the Minister of Finance. I would be very grateful if you could bring our concerns to the immediate attention of your caucus colleagues and to the government as time is of the essence. Thank you in advance for your support.
