An old story about a girl named after an Arrow Lakes sternwheeler, with a new postscript about a boy named after a different ship on the same lake. https://gregnesteroff.wixsite.com//p/a-girl-named-columbia

This small cabin, just west of the intersection of Highway 6 and Inonoaklin Valley Road north of Edgewood, was the first log cabin home of Harry Old. Built in 1892, it is likely one of the three or four oldest buildings still standing in the Arrow Lakes valley. ALHS 2015.028.181

Walk with Halcyon: A Steamboat's Past In 1898, due to the mining discoveries and fast-growing development on the Arrow and Kootenay Lakes, the SS Minto and her ...sister ship, the SS Moyie, were sent to Nakusp and Nelson to be assembled immediately to participate with transportation on the lakes. These ships looked after the "120 miles of water in Arrow Lakes, serving the loggers, farmers, trappers and tourists. She carried cattle, horses and freight until 1954, when the CPR removed her from service." Due to the lack of roads at the time, this was a great hardship to Halcyon Hot Springs as it prevented guests and visitors from being able to access the resort! Do you have any fun facts about Halcyon's History?? Share with us in the comments below! Revelstoke Museum & Archives Arrow Lakes Historical Society

As far as we know, Joe was the first Nakusp-born centenarian (although others have turned 100 while living in Nakusp). In 1993, he also became an Order of Canada recipient! He was dean emeritus of the UBC forestry faculty. https://vancouversunandprovince.remembering.ca//joseph-gar

This postcard from approximately 1913-16 shows a bird's-eye view of the fledgling Summit Lake townsite and the Summit Lake Lumber Co. mill at the west end of the lake. Much of the region’s Swedish Canadian population descends from lumbermen and their families who settled here in the early 20th century. Summit City, as it was known, was destroyed in March 1920 by a catastrophic fire that wiped out both the townsite and mill. ALHS 978.99.2
