An inspiring story about a young woman who ignored the stigma’s and found her dream job. Jessica Winters went from not knowing too much about energy, to becoming Nunatsiavut Government’s Community Energy Lead for FIVE different communities by age 24! What an incredible role model for her fellow youth! The Day in the Life series from Indigenous Clean Energy highlights some of Canada’s top Indigenous leaders who work in the clean energy sector. These leaders are all encouraging youth to also pursue rewarding careers in clean energy and provide clean energy solutions for this country’s future.

Na-Cho Nyäk Dun First Nation citizen and owner of the Yukon Soaps Company, Joella Hogan. One of my favourite captures from the moose hide tanning program I documented in 2019. The program was offered by Yukon University and it was an incredible source of happiness for the entire community. The program began with a tool-making section. Here, Joella is using a scraper tool (that she made using moose bone) to flesh the moose hide on a scraping bench. From field to closet!

I’m immensely proud to announce that Arrowsmith Productions is now an official collaborating partner with Indigenous Clean Energy (ICE) for their youth initiative, Generation Power!! What began as a single project has turned into a great partnership and working environment. ICE’s video projects mirror Arrowsmith Productions’ core values of sharing stories that help raise awareness, promote culture and empower youth. The upcoming video series showcases some of Canada’s top Indigenous leaders who work in clean energy careers and they encourage youth to pursue careers in clean energy as well! We’re very excited about project: Generation Power and we’ve agreed to partner on some future projects as well so there is more awesomeness on the horizon!

Time - !0:00am - 2:00pm - Where - In various areas of the City of Port Alberni - Who - Community Groups and individuals We are hopeful of having a number of local community groups form a team, and pick an area of the city to perform this spring clean up. We have received the City approval of this initiative and are working out the details of the event. On December 21st, a few members of Tseshaht First Nation celebrated the winter solstice by lighting lanterns along the Orange Bridge in Port Alberni. The lanterns represent a sense of unity and the hope that we may all find light in the darkness. Elder, Bella Peter was kind enough to let me capture this portrait after an interview with her in 2019. I was interviewing her for my upcoming film, Beyond Hide Tanning. During the interview, Bella told me stories of her childhood and what it was like to grow up in a small village in the Yukon. In that moment I was so unbelievably excited to be capturing her stories on camera and I knew that Bella was single handedly reshaping the structure of my entire film right in front of my eyes.
