Our Art Saves Lives fundraising campaign is ongoing! Creative practice is vital for mental health and we’re proud to offer programming to help increase access to that. Thank you to the alumni of the artist-in-residence program for sharing what the experience meant for them and their recovery journey. Please help us meet our goal by donating at Upbeat Artworks, by mail, or online at CanadaHelps (https://www.canadahelps.org/en/charities/artbeat-studio-inc/ ). We’re grateful to... everyone who donates or shares the campaign to help keep our heARTBEAT strong. . [Image descriptions: 1- on a coral orange background, a yellow text box with blue border is connected to 2 EKG readings - spiking lines whose peaks and valleys represent a heartbeat. Inside the text box it says "At Artbeat Studio, we began to identify ourselves more as artists than a group of mentally ill individuals. Our self-esteem increased as our strengths were validated and encouraged. - Laurie Green, group 4 resident artist". 2- on a golden yellow background, a bright blue frame around a photo of a tote bag. The bag is the same bright sky blue and it has artwork on it in golden ink: a line drawing of an elephant standing on its hind legs, trunk extended, shoots water into the air. Splashes of water go up and then curve down in droplets falling all around the elephant. In the spray squishy bubble letters spell "Art Saves Lives!" By the elephant's left foot is the Artbeat logo. Around the whole illustration is a zig-zag border. Text beside the photo reads " Your gift with any donation $40 or over: a limited edition tote bag designed by alumna Kate Kaplun!" Above and below this block of text are blue and yellow EKG readings 3- on a bright blue background, a collection of Artbeat Annual book covers. The top left one is an illustration of a city at night with the title "Unlocked." Light yellow text beside it reads " Be one of the first to read our latest Annual with a donation of $25!" Below are photos of other Annual covers and an open book. Text there says "donations under $25 with a Winnipeg address receive a past Annual (and our gratitude!)] See more

The last creation session for Blooming Together is tomorrow! We'll be making suncatcher flower petals to put together and display in the community. But if you aren't double vaccinated, or can't stay long, stop by Studio Central this week to pick up a kit to decorate your petal at home, and return it on Tuesday! The last year and a half has been incredibly challenging, but we're still here, still growing, and still together. Let's celebrate that with some art! Swipe to see som...e of the latest amazing flowers the community has created. . . [Image descriptions: The first slide is a poster for the Blooming Together project listing October 9, 1-2:30. Dark green and soft pink text on a sage green background says: "Blooming Together Culture Days Community Creation This Saturday 1-2:30 pm at Studio Central (2nd floor Portage Place)." Inside a darker green text box: "Join us to create a community garden of suncatchers which will be displayed in local storefronts!" Pink, yellow, and orange flowers decorate the edges of the image. At the top is an Artbeat logo, and at the bottom a Central Neighbourhoods logo and a Culture Days logo. The following four slides are photos of large flower-shaped suncatchers hanging in a window in front of tall buildings; each image has a different flower. They all have 5 petals and a brightly coloured centre with a word written inside (community, together, resilience, care). The petals are decorated with markers, paint, sparkles, tissue paper, and cellophane collages in many colours. See more

We ARTISTS EMPORIUM ! Artbeat wants to thank our friends at this Manitoba business who have been so amazing in helping us access lots of good-quality materials and supplies for our art kits; both the Safe At Home kits we are currently working on and those we've distributed earlier in the year. We could not do this without them and for that we are grateful! We highly recommend shopping local and visiting Artist's Emporium online or in-store for your art supply needs if you ...can! Text that looks like it is written in marker reads "we" then there is a painted pink heart in the centre of the image, and below that is the Artist's Emporium title and logo (a black box with red A diagonally within it and 3 golden brushstrokes beside the A, like the lines on a capital E).

We are thrilled to introduce the wonderful musicians who contributed their talents to the Bach for Artbeat fundraiser. The video premieres tonight on YouTube! We are gratefully accepting donations through our 50-50 raffle - link in event - or via Canada Helps in lieu of tickets. Please join us! Today’s featured artist is Meredith Johnson. Alabama native Meredith Johnson has been Principal Bassist of the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra since 2004. His playing has been praised for... its "resonant, lyrical beauty," and he is regularly heard with Manitoba's premiere ensembles, including Agassiz Chamber Music, Virtuosi Concerts, and The Winnipeg Chamber Music Society. He is one of inaugural members of the multi-Emmy Award winning All Star Orchestra and has been featured nationally on CBC Radio's The Signal. Meredith is the founder of the double bass symposium, Bassitoba; and is also actively involved in the commissioning of new pieces for the double bass. An active teacher and clinician, he maintains professional associations with the University of Manitoba, Canadian Mennonite University, Memorial University of Newfoundland and Labrador, and The Eastern Music Festival. Meredith lives in Winnipeg with his wife, violinist Susan McCallum, their three young children, and their faithful family dog Lucy. He considers it a privilege to be part of this concert to benefit such a fantastic and important organization as Artbeat Studio and would humbly like to dedicate his performance to the memory of his sister-in-law, violinist and artist Meredith McCallum (1983-2019). . #ArtSavesLives #Art #Music #Collaboration #Artists #Music #Bach #Fundraiser #MentalHealth #MentalWellness #Performance . Meredith stands on a wooden floor in between a carved wooden pulpit and large pipe organ that extends out of the image border. Meredith has light skin, balding hair, and wears a blue collared shirt, brown cuffed pants, a wedding ring, and sandals. His large double bass is leaning against his shoulder as he plays it, his head tilted down towards the bow with eyes closed. Overtop of the image is laid text, in a white, hand-printed style font: Bach for Artbeat Virtual Benefit Concert." See more

Just over 24 hours to go until the premiere! We are thrilled to introduce the wonderful musicians who contributed their talents to the Bach for Artbeat fundraiser. The video will be available from December 18th to 25th. We are gratefully accepting donations through our 50-50 raffle link in bio or via Canada Helps in lieu of tickets. Please join us! Today’s featured artists are Natanielle Felicitas (Cello) and Quintin Bart (Hurdy Gurdy). Winnipeg’s Natanielle Felicitas and... Quintin Bart embrace listeners with the deep, rich, and warm tones of cello, double bass, and hurdy gurdy (medieval wheel violin). Since 2018, they have been arranging and performing an eclectic repertoire, including JS Bach, Moondog, and European folk tunes. Regularly seen with the Raine Hamilton String Trio, Natanielle and Quintin weave their uncommon instrumentation together into a thoroughly unique musical tapestry. Quintin is also the volunteer producer of Bach for Artbeat and brother of Nigel Bart (Studio Facilitator, Founder of Artbeat Studio). . . #ArtSavesLives #Art #Music #Collaboration #Artists #Music #Bach #Fundraiser #MentalHealth #MentalWellness #Performance . . Quintin wears a white collared shirt, dark pants, a black blazer, and several silver rings, and looks intently at Natanielle while playing the hurdy-gurdy which is held on the lap. Natanielle wears dark cropped pants, a loose white collared shirt, mary jane shoes, and blue blazer. Looking towards the fire, Natanielle plays the cello and smiles.
