One way to support positive mental health on a regular basis is self care. Self care is taking time out of your day, for you to do something that is meaningful, enjoyable, and brings you a sense of calm. Bell Let's Talk is encouraging us to take time for self care each day.
Exercise and physical activity have numerous health benefits including helping to reduce symptoms of depression and anxiety. Consider trying to include more active time in your day, especially if you are feeling down. Walking, dancing, stretching, or moving around your house to boost your mood! Find the one that makes you smile and feel good. The video is a great watch explaining the link between mental health and exercise! #BellLetsTalk #CKA #OKA

Did you know? It is recommended that Canadians over 65 years old get 150 minutes per week of moderate intensity physical activity. That may seem daunting but that's only 21 minutes a day! These guidelines also give us information about sleep and sedentary behavior. What do you do to get moving throughout the day? #kinweek ... https://csepguidelines.ca//24HMovementGuidelines-Adults-65

October 29th is World Stroke Day. Today seeks to emphasize the serious nature and high rates of stroke. The day is also observed to raise awareness of the prevention and treatment of strokes. According to previous statistics, one in six people were expected to have a stroke during their lifetime. Fifteen million people around the world have strokes each year. It’s also the leading cause of disability. A stroke may cause paralysis, sensory disturbances and aphasia.... Early Warning Signs Knowing the early warning signs of stroke saves lives. Early symptoms of a stroke usually happen suddenly. These symptoms include: - Numbness or weakness, especially on one side of the body - Confusion or trouble talking - Trouble seeing - Dizziness or trouble walking - Severe headache If you or a loved one is having any of these symptoms, it’s important to act F.A.S.T. F = Facial Weakness A = Arm Weakness S = Speech difficulty T = Time loss is brain loss. Call 911 when these symptoms are present. Don’t wait! Early warning signs of a stroke may disappear after a few minutes. However, the symptoms may still indicate a transient ischemic attack (TIA). Even if symptoms disappear, it’s important to receive medical attention right away. It’s important to know the symptoms of a stroke. Furthermore, it’s also important to know that strokes can be prevented. In fact, up to 90% of all strokes can be prevented by addressing certain risk factors. These risk factors include hypertension, diet, smoking, and exercise. Through an emphasis on prevention, the World Stroke Association hopes to cut the number of strokes in half by 2030.

Put the kettle on, it is a rainy tea Thursday! What is your favourite type of tea? People all over the world have been drinking tea for thousands of centuries, and for good reason. Numerous studies have shown that a variety of teas may boost your immune system and fight off inflammation.... While some brews provide more health advantages than others, there’s plenty of evidence that regularly drinking tea can have a lasting impact on your wellness. Share your favourite type of tea in the comment section below.
Our Planes, Trains, and Automobile theme today was inspired by our client John (below left). John was a flight instructor and an pilot for the Royal Navy. As well, John has built his own model trains and currently has exquisite train tracks that span through two rooms in his basement. The clients had fun creating their own paper airplanes, having paper airplane races from the balcony and painting wooden model cars and helicopters ( see David below right).

Open your mind to the health rewards of a grateful mind and body! Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
