Each October, Art City produces a Halloween event that brings crowds of community members together. In recent years, this event has outgrown the largest local indoor spaces, pushing us outside to transform the entire West Broadway neighbourhood into a jump scare and candy filled "haunted house" experience. In 2020, such an event can't exist. Instead, we've come up with a responsible way to make Halloween mayhem and send it out into the world, creating layers of green screen v...ideo and editing in TikTok. Through the month of October, Art City participants worked at our Sherbrook Flats program site creating mini movie sets and stop motion animations. Guest improv artists Andrea del Campo and RobYn Slade coached participants as they interacted with these video layers in front of a green screen. Finally, participants edited their videos, added extra effects, stickers and soundtracks in TikTok. This Halloween, we know it's best if we all stay at home, eat candy and watch movies and videos. Hence the title of this project, the Art City Halloween Home Theatre. Art City thanks our participants, volunteers, staff and guests Andrea and RobYn for working together to make all of this happen while maintaining distance and wearing masks. Thanks to William F. White International for use of their green screen, lights and equipment! Also, thanks to the great Canadian TV program The Hilarious House of Frightenstein, which served as an inspirational starting point when designing this project. Enjoy and stay tuned for more, Art Citizens! https://vimeo.com/473913157
