In Joel Perron’s current show titled Remembering Faces, portraits emphasize realistic likeness while also incorporating expressive qualities unique to the artist. He has been an active Barrie Art Club member for a decade. Volunteering to facilitate Friday portraiture sessions, he has enjoyed getting to know club faces - all with unique personalities and physical features. Having studied some figure drawing as an undergraduate art student at the University of Waterloo over ...30 years ago, he has long been familiar with different mediums: charcoal, conte, ink, graphite, collage, acrylic, oil and pastel. However, a busy life soon took him away from art making. Thankfully, the club has offered him many valuable skill building workshops, drop-ins, and networking opportunities. These have helped him reach a level of drawing and painting he could not have imagined before joining the club. Weekly classes of classical art techniques at Pauline Bradshaw’s studio particularly sharpened his understanding of light and shadow, likeness, proportion, composition, quality of line - not to mention many trade secrets. In the end, Joel hopes these portraits go beyond likeness to also probe the mystery that moves a whole living person. During this health crisis, we have to remember more than numbers.
In this Album you will find the works of members showcased. These are currently on show at the Club but until we can get back to the club, we can view them here. Unfortunately the names are too small for me to see who's work it is. Please don't hesitate to let me know so that I can add that to the description. Vote for your favourite by liking the photo. You have three votes.
Not sure whether you should try a Zoom workshop? Then read the testimonial by Donna Montgomery. Thank you Donna for sharing your art with us.
