Dance artist and educator Syreeta Hector is performing a free livestream of her work ‘Black Ballerina’ at 7pm on Nov. 27 with Citadel + Compagnie LIVE! Based on... Syreeta’s relationship with her own Blackness and Indigeneity and her experiences in classical ballet, ‘Black Ballerina’ began as a short but powerful 2019 SummerWorks piece where it won the Stratford Festival Lab Award for Research & Development. Shortly after, ‘Black Ballerina’ was part of the Citadel Dance Mix programme where it received a Dora nomination from TAPA Toronto Alliance for the Performing Arts for Outstanding Performance by an Individual. Syreeta continued to develop this work while part of Canadian Stage’s RBC Creators in Residence Program, followed by performances at Kaaitheater in Brussels. And NOW, an ever-so appropriate return to The Citadel for a full 40-minute livestreamed performance! Directed by Oscar-nominated Barbara Willis Sweete (Schafer’s Labyrinth, a WIP of R. Murray Schafer’s 13 string quartets), ‘Black Ballerina’ will be available online until November 28 at midnight at https://www.citadelcie.com/black-ballerina/ Syreeta is part of Luminato's Fall Artist in Residence (AIR). #BlackBallerina #CitadelLIVE #LuminatoFestival
