If you have problem Dog Strangling Vine on your property, this may be the webinar for you. Subject: FW: Ottawa Entomology Club 165, Dr. Naomi Cappuccino, Biological control of dog-strangling vine , Thursday March 18 Please join us for a presentation by Carleton University Professor Naomi Cappuccino.... Biological control of dog-strangling vine: will Hypena opulenta ever eat enough? Biological control is an environmentally friendly alternative to herbicides for controlling invasive alien plants, and it can be highly effectivethat is, when it works. The moth Hypena opulenta was introduced in Ottawa in 2014 to combat dog-strangling vine (DSV, Vincetoxicum rossicum). Although caterpillar abundance and feeding damage has increased since its establishment, the level of damage is still nowhere near what would be needed to control DSV. Will H. opulenta ever become abundant enough to do the job? One major factor will be how susceptible it is to natural enemies of its own. I will present what we know so far about natural enemies of H. opulenta (the good news) and discuss other characteristics of the species that might play a role in how successful it becomes (the less-good news). The meeting will be held by Zoom Videoconference at 7:30 PM, Thursday March 18th. Please register via this link by March 17th if you even think you might be able to attend: https://docs.google.com//1FAIpQLSf22nNaU-h6dblTbs/viewform You will receive a zoom link and instructions on the day of the talk. All are welcome. More information: [email protected], or [email protected]

Cleaning seed for this summers' production of Heirloom Golden Wax Bean, a seed I've saved for 20 years. It's a very tasty and productive type that I can plant 5-6 successions in the season, to provide fresh beans weekly for about 8 weeks. Picked fresh, they will be going to Cobourg Farmers Market and our CSA 2021. This is one of 26 types of Heirlooms I've saved seed from over the years. #cobourgfarmersmarket #foodsecurity #organicfarming
