Art Gallery of Nova Scotia 24.11.2020

"We proposed a sinuous building surrounded by regenerative gardens that will signal a radical new beginning for the AGNS, the Waterfront, for Nova Scotians, and the world of art. We want people to experience art in a great setting. We want people to feel welcome and at home. We believe we have created a place for everyone. - Bruce Kuwabara, KPMB Architects Congratulations to KPMB Architects with Omar Gandhi Architect, Jordan Bennett Studio, Elder Lorraine Whitman (NWAC), Pub...lic Work and Transsolar, the winners of international design competition for the new Art Gallery of Nova Scotia and Waterfront Arts District. Thank you to the Sobey Family, The Donald R. Sobey Foundation, and The Sobey Foundation for their transformational $10 million gift in support of the development of the new Art Gallery of Nova Scotia. Their gift will shape the path in realizing the dream for a new Gallery. The Sobey Family’s generosity to the arts in Canada is unparalleled. We are so fortunate to have their support as we revolutionize the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia into a leading Canadian art museum.

If you look at some of the pictures in the archives, African Nova Scotian women go unnamed...these three women: Kate, Kordeena, I’thandi stay grinding in the name of blackness, motherhood, art, and activism. Tune in to see what inspires, shapes, and influences their practices, work and how they arrived where they are today. Art can be a powerful tool for change. Through this dialogue with artists Kate Macdonald, Kordeena Clayton and I’thandi Munro, we hope to encourage a shif...t in dialogue by amplifying racialized and marginalized voices and perspectives. This monthly virtual series will be streamed through the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia social media channels and website. Through this series, conversations are held to give voice to Black, Indigenous, and People of Colour in the visual arts. Viewers will hear from emerging and established artists, and leaders working in community and social justice through art. See more
