Dire Straits It’s becoming more and more obvious by the day, that the old Canada the we all once revered, is slowly falling by the wayside into what we might h...ave considered unacceptable only a few decades earlier. Expanding pandemics, combined with a loss of trust and appreciation for its healthcare and medical system, has left a great number of Canadians sceptical as to where their government is leading them. From back in the day when we religiously trusted our doctors and nurses, as compared to today, where a certain fraction of the population whose anti-vaccination stance is considerably enough to create a bump in election polling for its likewise political candidates. These bi-polar opinions, have been created through example by our very own bipartisan political system. These juvenile partisanship’s, may very well be a signal of civility being challenged in Canada, in a way that’s never been seen in this part of the world before. Because of these partisanship rivalries, our governments are no longer in control. It’s now become almost impossible to create any type of consensus. It doesn’t matter what the issue is, even a common value one, they just can’t muster a common proposal without putting the governing party’s stamp of approval on it. Unless this juvenile behaviour ceases immediately, our chances of surviving some of these impending apocalyptic events, including all aspects of climate change and global warming, is minimal, but more than likely, impossible! As a long time climate activist, the political arena is an opportunity to be heard, so I chose it. I would beg of the other parties to accept my challenge to keep the debate of the impending climate crisis at the top of the electoral agenda. I believe not only is this a way of preserving our civilization, but also, I feel there is hidden value in doing the right thing. I believe also, in doing the right thing which would have to create a mass mobilization only comparable to that of the Second World War. In fact, the transformation and mobilization to cleaner and renewable systems could very well create the greatest economic catalyst that the world will ever see. We may very well clean the earth and prep for future generations while padding our pensions, but most importantly, creating a liveable and sustainable planet. Arthur Green, Hope See more

This is not an appropriate comment. For someone who accuses so many people of sexism, this is a very sexist comment. As a marginalized person in politics, I’m u...sed to receiving hate, and even to having folks within my party hate me for who I am, but I also have to know the difference between hate and valid criticisms. Criticisms of Annamie’s handling of Zatzman’s comments, and the subsequent implosion of the party, are entirely valid and appropriate. I can’t accuse everyone who criticizes me of transphobia or homophobia. Eventually people will recognize that I’m trying to avoid taking personal responsibility. I completely understand, and encourage, speaking out about hate, but accusing every critic of being a hater is an easy-out that impacts your credibility and is counterproductive in the quest for societal equity.

The BC NDP’s budget pays out more in oil and gas subsidies than what the Province earns in royalties! There’s no business in the world than could survive by sel...ling its products cheaper than what it costs to produce them. This is how the NDP plans to destroy the economy and the earth’s biodiversity at the same time. #climatechangeisreal See more

Conservative Politics It bemuses me that the old granddaddy Conservative Party of Canada, is beginning to flounder under its own weight of intolerance. It’s ne...west leader Erin O’Toole, a young family man, recognizes that the best shot of leaving a legacy of health and prosperity to his own children and future generations, is to seriously consider the bleak future forecasted by physical science, if we continue to ignore the man made causes of climate change. I’m sure Mr. O’Toole, like the rest of us climate activists, is more than alarmed what the future holds for these future constituents, if we carry on in our ways, of putting our monetary values above the health and safety of our citizens. I believe he also recognizes that the best way to control carbon emissions is to put a price on it. Yet, because the base of Conservative support is in the heart of Canada’s energy producing prairie provinces, Mr. O’Toole’s plans get watered down to token, and totally ineffective carbon pricing and climate action, which basically guarantees the Liberals a majority in the next election, probably this summer. I believe the biggest impediment for climate action, and solving the plethora of crises facing our shrinking planet is NA’s current confrontational political systems. In Canada our system is is referred to as a Westminster democracy, where generally 40% of the vote translates into a majority government with 100% of the power, that is highly lobbied by special interest groups within. In my opinion our only chance of saving humanity from itself will be if all peoples work as one. As well as an electoral system where every vote is counted and every vote is represented in its legislatures. The greatest economic catalyst that the world will ever see will be the transformation to clean and renewable energy systems. We need to do this, not just for economic growth, but to save the biodiversity of the planet as well, as we cannot survive without it. Arthur Green, Hope BC See more

There is a movie release criticizing the green energy transition being released on Earth Day, this is connected to a movement called "Deep Green Resistance". Th...e author of the book that the movie is based on is Derrick Jensen, a well known radical environmentalist and prolific author. He has called for the end of civilization in the past and advocated for destroying public infrastructure and that's when I stopped reading his work, too extreme. He has a point though that "Any action involving the industrial economy is destructive" in that yeah, producing solar panels and wind turbines requires mining, oil extraction, etc. The movie actually took out a double full page cover add in the April 17 2021 Ottawa Citizen, this raises the question of where they got the funding and what is the political and financial interest? I'm sure the movie will go over the top attacking green energy and there will be articles out soon after that contradict it's claims, we've seen this before. What do you think about this issue? Derrick Jensen's views summed up in 6 min https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xjqrq8OrtcI Canadian connection https://www.theglobeandmail.com//article-how-canadian-fi/ The movie https://www.brightgreenlies.com/

The Fairy Creek watershed is one of the last intact old growth ecosystems on Southern Vancouver Island, unceded Pacheedaht territory. Premier Horgan's silence ...on the injunction granted to Teal Jones to log in this area is telling. We need to ask our government why forestry jobs are dependent on logging 1000+ year old forests. We need system change, and we need it now. In the meantime, people will continue to stand up to protect what the BC NDP fails to: bit.ly/call_Horgan_now

The fossil fuel industry's misinformation campaign is thriving here in Canada. You are forgiven if you thought we were doing well - they've worked hard to make ...that so. But now you know better.
