OPPORTUNITY In his book "The Golden Rules", Bob Bowman describes how Attitude + Action = Achievement.... Of course, attitude is a critical foundation to success. In 2016, 94% of Black Canadian youth aged 15 to 25 aspired to attaining a bachelor’s degree or higher, but only 60% believed they could. Transforming attitude into actions should create more Black university students, but it hasn’t. The link that is missing between Attitude and Action is OPPORTUNITY. Would Mark Phelps have become an Olympian if he had never had role models that looked like him and someone who believed, guided and supported him? For Black students, one of the missing parts of the equation is the lack of mentors and role models. It’s hard to believe you can achieve something if you don't see anyone in that field that looks like you. The Marvel movie Black Panther was the first to show Black children that they could be superheroes and have interests in math and science too.
