Pysanka Workshops at the Vegreville Festival were so much fun!
Remembering Canada Days in the past.
Question: Do you ever have a grey hue in the white areas of the egg? I did a couple of ostrich eggs and I’m not sure what is the best way to whiten them. Can you give me any suggestions? Joan: A couple of things comes to mind. Firstly, it could be a very light residue of beeswax. To take it off you can use something like "lighter fluid" or "goof-off". MAKE SURE IT'S NOT A WATER-BASED PRODUCT! Using a small amount, gently wipe over your egg with a cotton pad (like the ones yo...u use to remove makeup) or a soft tissue. It should not affect the dyes. You can do a test area somewhere on your pysanka, first. If you see a dark residue on your cotton pad/tissue, then that answers your question. Secondly, if a candle was used to remove the beeswax, it could be that the shell is burnt. YOU HAVE TO BE VERY CAREFUL WHEN USING THE CANDLE-METHOD. Never the touch the wick. The centre of the candle is the hottest, and while it is good for the kistka, not so much for the eggshell. Unfortunately there is no remedy for this problem. I hope this helps. PLEASE LET ME KNOW YOUR RESULTS. #beeswax #BabasBeeswax #TipsAndHints #PysankySupplies
