Attention: Fundraiser - Student Artwork for Sale Despite there having been no art lessons for 3 months now due to the pandemic, these students have made some INCREDIBLE work dealing with themes of racism, kindness and love. These are now for sale with proceeds going to Touchstone Mental Health, an organization that is responsible for running food drives in Minneapolis as well as offers mental health support to that particular community. Please let me know which image you would like! Prints will be made if more than one person wants the same piece. I can’t thank my students and their parents enough. *edit This sale is by donation - any amount! Last time I had donations ranging from $2-$25 per piece, through making prints we raised $600 so every little bit helps!

FUNDRAISER for Touchstone Mental Health hosted by Art Lessons in East Hants: Call for Student Artwork Hello! It’s been awhile since I have seen all of you unless I ran into you at the grocery store and wasn’t able to socialize! Hope everyone is doing well. ... I would like to invite the kids to make art work (themes can include anti racism, kindness and hope) to raise money for Touchstone Mental Health who are running food drives in Minneapolis and assisting people who live there. If you would like to participate please dm me photos of art work (paintings, drawings, collages etc) by June 5th (Friday next week) and I will then post it for sale next weekend. If anyone wants prints made so they can sell more than one of their drawing I will provide these at no cost. If any children who do not take art lessons want to participate (siblings, friends etc) that is wonderful! If anyone needs help coming up with ideas, please, please get in touch! I miss all of you and would be happy to talk on Facebook, video chats, phone calls etc. Art Lessons in East Hants stands in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter Movement. Not all lives matter until black lives matter.

Today’s art of the day is brought to you by Brooke Isenor! This super hero, who’s name is Amy, is 95 years old and immortal. I think there’s a sense of Immortality in the way the character looks. Love seeing strong, inclusive women characters! Saw today that most of our essential workers are women. Let’s recognize and celebrate that!! Stay Safe today East Hants, we’re all stronger than we think

Art of the day today is brought to you by Kallum and Findon Scott and Pearce MacIlreith. Lots of bright blues like outside today! The two paintings are copies ...of Maud Lewis inspired by the virtual tour on the AGNS website. (Kallum and Findon Scott) The polar bear drawing (Pearce MacIlreith) is a contour drawing, sketched in light pencil, outlined with marker and coloured in with coloured pencils. This is something we do a lot of here and excited to see kids doing it at home! Please check out and follow Art Lessons in East Hants for more art! Hope everyone is doing well on this beautiful day

Today’s art of the day is brought to you by Gemma, one of our newest students at Art Lessons in East Hants. I think a turtle is a nice symbol for slowing down! Instead of feeling like you need to cram in all kinds of activities because of so much free time, try slowing down instead! Slowing down (and sometimes speeding up, but we’ll talk about that later!) really helps my drawings. Use this time to not feel so much pressure to get things done and really dive into experi...mentation and play! Kids and adults both Lots of love from Art Lessons in East Hants!

Art of the day is brought to you by Grace Burgess! It is a great example of how to do shading with alcohol ink markers. If anyone would like a link to a YouTube demonstration I made of how to achieve this effect, message me and I will send you the link. Lots of love from Art Lessons in East Hants!

Really awesome art of the day today brought to you by Pearce MacIlreith! Now is a great time to experiment with collage! Everyone can benefit from collaging no matter what your regular practise is. Good for all ages, even adults. Also a great way to repurpose recyclable materials. I like using fabrics as well as paper. Half the fun is collecting the materials. As always, feel free to message me with questions or to show me your art! Lots of love from Art Lessons in East Hants!

Art of the day is brought to you by Kallum Scott, Findon Scott and Sarah Ashley. There seems to be a common theme here! Lots of animals on blue backgrounds! What’s your favourite animal or character? Where does it live? Maybe you have a pet at home to draw or maybe you can use a photo, a toy or you imagination!! Remember, start with the big shapes and work your way to the details. Don’t forget the background! Lots of love from Art Lessons in East Hants!

Today’s art of the day are some lovely gradients brought to you by Amber Yates! A cheerful addition to her mother’s garden. Getting low on paper? What creative thing can you find to paint on today? Recyclables? Stuff in your backyard? Old toys? Old books? Don’t forget to send me photos of what you come up with! Lots of love from Art Lessons in East Hants!

Today’s art of the day is brought to you by Brooke Isenor and Hannah White. Brooke has been using gesture drawing techniques to create incredible multi-figure anime drawings. She used shading to show light and dimension and cross hatching for texture! She’s unaware that she’s teaching herself foreshortening and I can’t wait to have her back so we can cover it! Hannah White who has been focusing on experimental painting techniques created the painting below, sending love to ...her friends in Europe, who her family had hosted as foreign exchange students. She used painters tape to get the strong straight lines, which she painted over with black acrylic paint. This is called masking and it’s one of my personal favourite techniques! It seems to work best with acrylic paint. She then used chalk pastels and markers for the details. What creative mix of materials/techniques can you come up with today? And if you could send love to somewhere you can’t be today, where would that be? Don’t forget to send me your art to be featured! Lots of love from Art Lessons in East Hants!

Todays art of the day is brought to you by Grace Burgess and her friend Tristan, and Kallum and Findon Scott! Tristan posted a digital drawing he made, and challenged his followers to create the same drawing in their style. Grace created her piece based on his! Such a fun, ambitious idea! Now is a great time for art challenges! Second images were done from my tutorial with exciting results!! Findon was able to get great results using shading, even though we’ve yet to cover... shading in art lessons. Kallum added a twist to his, making a ‘woody’ cactus! I think the character is really recognizable and both projects are major success! Keep the work coming everyone! I am open for video chats tomorrow and will be putting out a new tutorial every Friday. Lots of love from Art Lessons in East Hants!
