Pinhole photography, created by some of my grade 12 students! These were made with cardboard boxes and a piece of photographic paper, then processed in the darkroom. It was fun to see such a motivated group of students and the nostalgic pictures of the woods behind our school. They created negatives with the camera and changed the photos to positives in Photoshop. I'll add a few more soon.

These pieces were a bit of an experiment with a few grade 11 students- they used India ink on vellum over 6 layers, then put all of the layers together to make a scene. This was an example of the work being a lot more tricky than Pinterest makes it seem, but I'm still pleased with the results! From left to right- Makenzie Ermel, Rebecca MacDonald, and Meadow Bester
Celebrating the art of every student! These are the first grid drawings of this semester's grade 9-10 art class- frogs, hippos and cows.
Here is a roundup of some pieces that I didn't get to post before- silkscreen shirt printing, watercolour, conté and soapstone.
Check out these grade 9-10 scratch board drawings from the end of January. Some are in progress and some are complete. Love these!
Check out the new interactive wall in the art hall I will periodically switch it up with art and games.
Yes! The first photo developed in our new school darkroom. This is a negative, created with a pinhole camera called a Hexacam- it has six holes, and creates a 360 degree photo of the scene you place it in. It's been 12 years since I last taught in a darkroom, and I'm so glad to be back! I hope to get every art student doing this at least once this semester, plus a lot more with the photography club
Photography Club will be coming back this spring, with a new darkroom and better equipment than ever! Students in Media Arts will get to play with a few of these toys too
Grade 11 shoe paintings! Can you recognize the inspiration for each one? I would love to wear these
Could you paint like this when you were in grade 10? You NEED to click through these...
These latest (complete) paintings by our grade 9 students are a true celebration of talent and hard work. I am so lucky to be their teacher! This is one of the harder painting assignments I give, but I knew they would be up for it.
This is an encaustic (wax) + copper reinterpretation of an Emily Carr painting, done by Catherine Hazzard. If you have ever done an encaustic painting before, you know that it requires a lot of patience and practice. This is something I would frame for my own home! Way to go!
Here is an example of a painting the grade 10 class recently completed. This one is by Gwen Schnurr. What you can't see very well is that she used an impasto technique, so the flowers are all raised with lots of texture. I gave the rest of the pieces back to the students before I remembered to photograph them, but there were lots of outstanding examples from this small but mighty group
