The Ottawa Arts Mentorship Program connects participants to foster career development and advancement of professional artists and arts administrators in the emerging and mid-career stages of their careers. The program is made possible through the generous support of the Canada Council for the Arts | Conseil des arts du Canada and the Ontario Arts Council - Conseil des arts de l'Ontario, and is delivered by Arts Network Ottawa in partnership with WorkInCulture and the Cultural... Human Resources Council - Le Conseil des RH du secteur culturel . This week’s spotlight: Patricia Kenny Artist (mentee) and Heidi Conrod (mentor) ‘’It has been an absolute pleasure to work with Pat over the past few months. During this time I observed Pat moving outside her comfort zone to experiment with colour, composition and technique. As a result Pat has expanded her painterly language and has gained a new level of control over her medium. I believe the paintings she created over the past few months are the foundation for a very strong body of work . During our weekly discussions Pat was able to articulate the various influences and themes that inform her work. I thoroughly enjoyed meeting with Pat once a week and hope to continue our professional and personal relationship once the program ends. ’’ - Heidi ‘’As a painter, I examine life altering experiences exploring the connection between mind, body and identity. Heidi and I met weekly with goals to conduct research and progress on a body of work for a solo show. With COVID, the exhibition was cancelled but we met undeterred, initially in person then with distancing by Facetime. With Heidi’s thoughtful critique and astute observations, I progressed on my series of work. She encouraged me outside my comfort zone suggesting alternate approaches and a larger scale. She pointed to relevant artists and articles. I am so grateful for this opportunity and was well matched with a mentor I admire professionally and now consider a friend.‘’ Patricia
