This Saturday at the 2020 Creative Nova Scotia Awards Gala a new award for Black artists in Nova Scotia was announced. Arts Nova Scotia Director Briony Carros made this announcement adding, "We recognize this award is long overdue and it is time that this vibrant and essential part of our cultural community is properly acknowledged for its immense value and impact. The establishment of this prize is a positive step for the future and we look forward to nominations in the coming years." Read about the award, which was created by a dedicated committee of Black artists, and Julian Covey who has been commissioned to create the physical award that will be handed out for the first time at the 2021 Gala on our website.

Congratulations to the winners of the Portia White award, announced last night at the 2020 Creative Nova Scotia Awards Gala! AFUA COOPER will receive the Portia White Award. She received $18,000 and the remaining $7,000 was awarded to her chosen protégé, the Writer's Federation of Nova Scotia.
