Hermann's Jazz Club will be streaming our Christmas Special December 24 & 25 at 1pm and 7:30pm to all of our wonderful fans and friends across Canada. We are pr...oud to be hosting this event in support of Music Heals, a sentiment (fact) that many of us embrace. Donations to Music Heals directly supports local music therapy programs, such as the one at Mount Saint Mary Hospital. For the 80 percent of residents who have dementia, music fills a gap: bringing back their sense of self and the memories of people, places, and events that are part of their identity. Music therapy can have an observable impact on the mood and level of engagement of residents. It can help calm agitation and connect residents who feel isolated or alone. LIVE NOW: Avram McCagherty is joined by the legendary Al Pease for an afternoon of Swing Music and Trad Jazz. Al Pease is one of the greatest reed players alive today. Tenor saxophone and clarinet player with the classic beauty of the 20s and 30s.... Avram McCagherty on guitar is a disciple of Marc Atkinson and a deep lover of the great chord melody guitar masters of the Big Band Era These two old friends first started collaborating in the year 2000 with a weekly duo gig which endured 5 years and have played hundreds of gigs since.

From the Deb Rhymer Band: Hello! It goes without saying that we miss you all! We just wanted to give you an update on our Sunday Blues Services blues jam and gi...gs. The V Lounge Red Lion Hotel opens this Wednesday but during phase 2 when capacity is limited to 50, they will only be open daytime hours til 6 pm. Once we are in phase 3, the blues jam will be back! We may have to make minor modifications on the stage and dance floor but we can make it work! Most of our other shows/festivals have been cancelled. We will be doing a live stream show on line for the 39 days of July from Duncan. Details to follow. Bartholomew's is closed indefinitely. Live music is coming back but slowly and safely. We really look forward to seeing everybody. Stay safe and stay well! I am sure some great blues music is going to come from all of this! See more

Arts On View honors the fact that jazz and its evolution are deeply rooted in the history of the African American experience. This is inseparable from the art that is has inspired. Jazz musicians, throughout its history, have always been on the front lines of change and we cannot imagine a world without the voices of Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, Nina Simon, Charles Mingus, John Coltrane, Max Roach and Abbey Lincoln to mention a few of many. All musicians of today stand o...n the shoulders of giants who fought oppression through musical freedom and artistic expression. The Arts on View Society Board is committed to continuing the legacy of African American involvement in jazz, and as such welcomes musicians of any race, color, or creed to perform at Hermann’s Jazz Club. Verna Smith....just turned 100 years old and all those years she and hubby, Austin occupied the black leather sofa, specially placed by Hermann himself near the... steps in Hermann's Jazz Club for them, they rarely missed a CanUS show. She is at Glengarry but still the Verna we all remember and sees her Austin pretty much every day! Her history is also an interesting one: Many years performing in Jerry Gosley's "Smile Show" here in Victoria as well as entertaining Canada's troops during the Korean War . Happy Birthday, Verna.
