We're so excited to have Deepti Gupta share her insight during this discussion!!! Immigrating from India in 1970 Deepti began her Canadian arts career in Hamilt...on dancing in community events and directing school plays. Doing a rewrite of the Nativity Play for grade school and performing adoring hymns to Krishna at Diwali were all one fluid world. Deepti went on to study dance and theatre in Canada and India at renowned institutes, including an MA in Dance from York University. An established choreographer and performer in the elegant Kathak form of dance, she is trained in the lineage of the Lucknow Gharana by preeminent gurus. Deepti has worked in Indian theatre as dramaturge, playwright, actor and educator. Artistic Director of Arzoo Dance Theatre, creating cutting edge choreographic works in South Asian dance, Deepti’s work has been supported and presented by the NAC, Canada Dance Festival, Banff Centre for the Arts, Danceworks and many notable venues in India and the US. Now back in Hamilton, Deepti and Arzoo Dance Theatre are creating art that straddles and connects many worlds. Deepti believes art education has the power to transform us.
