Hoping to give my clients what they need from me, even if these different times. For instance, if we need to create a fort to feel safe to talk about our feelings, we can figure that out together. Xoxo Dr.Eden

Dr. Eden Recommendation for Families to try ... We incorporated these questions (and expanded upon them, of course I had to make some of my own) into our daily family dinnertime. Each person choses one from the cup and we spend time discussing our respective answers. A great "tool" for families to try out to build communication and open doors to sharing thoughts and feelings. https://qz.com//20-great-questions-to-ask-instead-of-how-/

MENTAL HEALTH WELLNESS TIPS FOR QUARANTINE 1. Stick to a routine. Go to sleep and wake up at a reasonable time, write a schedule that is varied and includes time for work as well as self-care. 2. Dress for the social life you want, not the social life you have. Get showered and dressed in comfortable clothes, wash your face, brush your teeth. Take the time to do a bath or a facial. Put on some bright colors. It is amazing how our dress can impact our mood....Continue reading

This room. I love this room. I miss this room. It’s where I’ve seen so much pain, so many tears, but also so much joy, bravery and growth. I know that psych training is heavily focused on keeping the self separate from client work, but I’ll be damned if that training has stopped my heart from melting into each and every one of my clients’ lives. Which is why I want to say to all of my clients ... I care about you and I miss seeing you in person! ... I am here, and while it’s not the same, just like that room is not in a beautiful building or a perfect office .... it is a therapeutic space that I feel so lucky to share with you. Social distancing will save lives. But emotional distancing will end them. Maybe you are scared, I know that I am, but you are not alone. We are not alone. Even if we are not sharing that space, that room, I will still be with you, and you with me. That’s the magic of therapy, however it’s offered. Until we meet again in this room ....

While the kids are home from school, why not help them build emotional literacy and resiliency. We often focus on academics, but emotional health is just as, if not more so, important for long term success, outcomes and wellbeing. A few books I suggest purchasing that they can work through on their own (or with you) are as follows. The Confidence Code for Girls: https://amzn.to/2x0JOZA The Confidence Code Journal: https://amzn.to/2IQwI3Q... Don't Let Emotions Ruin your Life (teens): https://amzn.to/2U1em6J Don't Let Emotions Ruin your Life (kids): https://amzn.to/2QmiTy6 Life Strategies for Teens: https://amzn.to/38Wz0sS Feeling Better with CBT for Teens: https://amzn.to/2weJ2bl Teen Anxiety Survival Guide: https://amzn.to/3d6ZpqW Please feel free to share this post. These are great resources and I strongly encourage you to pick some up during this unprecedented time. MEMO: Clients and New Referrals Given recent updates in the COVID-19 pandemic, all in-person sessions are being offered either online or by telephone. I am unsure when I will be returning to the office. This decision is being made in efforts to protect my health, your health, and the health of other clients and our larger community. This means:... 1) ONLINE SESSIONS I am able to meet online via confidential Health Information and Privacy compliant platforms as FaceTime, Zoom and doxy.me. 2) TELEPHONE SESSIONS I am able to speak by Phone 3) COACHING / GUIDANCE SESSIONS I am able to prepare and respond via detailed email (with resources/specifics) for check-in, coaching, guidance. These are unprecedented times and I fully understand this is a personal choice for everyone. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me. We are not meant to go through life’s challenges alone. Dr. Eden McCaffrey

This is why I limit my caseload. I strive to give my very best and I care deeply about my clients. I am honored to walk the journey alongside of my clients and I don’t take my role lightly.

What To Do When you Worry Too Much is a book designed for ages 6-12, but I find that the skills it teaches are useful for down the road; a gift that keeps giving. In it are so many tips and strategies that can be useful when feelings get too big. With stress, anxiety and worry being commonplace, it is helpful to get ahead on these conversations and tools with our littles. #countdownto2020 . https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/1591473144/ref=as_li_tl

I am the type of therapist that believes in evidence-based practice, and building skills for long term success. This is a great self-help workbook I recommend for teens to learn and build their skills in dealing with difficult emotions. A recommendation I come back to time and time again! #countdownto2020 https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/1572248831/ref=as_li_tl

The reader never finds out what happened, rightfully so, as this wonderful book explores what happens when we hold bad things inside and how talking about it can help. A great resource for little ones who have witnessed / experienced a trauma. #countdownto2020 https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/1557987017/ref=as_li_tl

Shout out to my colleague and friend, Dr. Jody Carrington We started our careers together, and over the years, she has poured her heart in to writing an amazing book: "Kids These Days". She says it best: "If you own a kid, work with a kid, or love a kid, you will find something inspiring in these pages" and I could not agree more. A 2019 recommendation of mine for sure! #countdownto2020 https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/1525547887/ref=as_li_tl

Not a book, but a website ... I learnt about the understood website in 2019 and it is fantastic, even offering others the "experience" of what it is like to have learning and attention difficulties. A great resource! https://www.understood.org/en/through-your-childs-eyes

My Book recommendation for today as part of my #countdownto2020 is one I suggest all teens read pre-college / pre-university. This book prepares them mentally, focusing on the importance of non-academic skills like resiliency, perseverance, etc. I learnt about and read this one this year, and it has been a top recommendation for grade 11 and 12 students in my life personally and professionally. https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/125011313X/ref=as_li_tl
