ARTS STUDENT CENTRE DESIGN UPDATE: These images display different options for the materiality of the exterior of the new Arts Student Centre. They also provide a sneak-peek into the interior of the ASC, featuring a covered outdoor deck which looks upon the intersection of East Mall and Walter Gage Road. The final 4 images are of a detailed floor plan of the new Arts Student Centre; Levels 1-3 make up the majority of the project program with a gross area of roughly 9000 sq. ft.... We aim to use these updates to increase engagement with our constituents and welcome feedback on the ongoing work of the Arts Student Centre Working Group. Update after speaking with the UBC’s Finance and Student Enrolment department The fee implementation was a complete oversight on their part, and something... they forgot to change before the 2018W Session fees were due. We want to stress that this fee would have been added to your tuition had this mistake not have been made, and it is not an additional cost. To be completely transparent, the $10 will still be due. However, we stressed that there was a multitude of student concerns and frustrations with the way that the email addressed this outstanding fee. That being said: if you do not pay this term, the fee will simply be added to your next fee payment at no interest. If you are graduating this term and do not pay, you will not be penalized nor will your diploma be withheld. Regarding the website - we have been notified that it is being updated right now. We apologize for not noticing this sooner, but unfortunately, it is not posted on an AUS medium so we do not have access to making any changes at the moment. We plan to constantly work to keep in contact with them so that this does not happen again. Hopefully this clears some things up, and if you still have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to message us. The AUS

On Thursday, May 23rd, President Ono published a tweet regarding the possible relocation of the Arts Student Centre. In response to this, we would like to issue the following statement: The Arts Undergraduate Society is currently working with several on-campus groups to actively investigate the concerns that have arisen with this statement. Dr. Ono’s remark was made unilaterally from the President’s office neither the AUS nor any other stakeholders associated with the proje...ct were consulted before President Ono published his tweet. The Arts Undergraduate Society will be in conversation with Campus and Community Planning to understand how this announcement was made without prior consultation, and will ensure a timely and comprehensive review. We wish to assure all Arts students that the Dean’s Office of the Faculty of Arts and the Arts Undergraduate Society are committed to the completion of the Arts Student Centre. We will continue to update our constituents as more information comes to light over the next week. Hi everyone, Today, you received an email from the Enrolment Services that your 2018W Arts Student Centre Fee was incorrectly assessed at $15, resulting in a $1...0 payment overdue. Consequently, the $10 shortfall has been added to your account to address the omission. The AUS regrets the situation and we want to assure you that this is not an additional fee. UBC Enrolment Services sincerely regrets the situation and unfortunately, we were not made aware of this error prior to the email that you received. The AUS plans to work with Enrolment Services to ensure this does not happen again. The plan for the building is still moving ahead as promised, and we look forward to bringing the best student experience possible for Arts students. The goal of this project was always to augment university life and experience, both academically and socially, providing both formal and informal learning spaces. Based on past surveys, an arts workshop/recreational space was added to the list of things that you wanted to see in the future ASC, and now we need your input again.
