During my free Nutritional Consultations with clients I often hear about many different medications and vitamins being prescribed to people with nutritional deficiencies by doctors. But there is often information missing. How many people have been told to take (high dose) vitamin D daily(period) with no other explanation as to why or how.. Did you know that the vital nutrients like vitamins A,E,K & D are Fat Soluble?! Mostly found in leafy greens, vegetables and sunlight.. ...Fat soluble means the vitamin needs a Fat Source to be absorbed properly in the and transport through the lymphatic system; Nuts/ seeds, avocado, coconut oil, olive oil. (One of the reasons the Mediterranean diet is so effective) and fat free dressings work against you. Taking a vitamin D supplement without a fat source is a waste of your time as well as hazardous to your health if not absorbed properly. Hence why we as Canadians are so deficient in this vitamin and if we are dificient in one we are deficient in all of the above. Low fat diets are not healthy. They strip your body of the ability to absorb nutrients properly. Leading to excess body fat, toxins and nutritional deficiencies Eat Fat to Lose Fat! I also get a lot of questions about cleansing & detoxing to kick start a weight loss program. Often people come through feeling worse or tired with cravings that are through the roof.. When detoxing you eliminate toxins but you also eliminate important minerals like potassium, magnesium & sodium which can lead to lethargy, sluggishness and mad carvings, as the bodily functions are not operating properly. Eating a banana, magnesium rich nuts and seeds (trail mix) or taking a Epsom Salt bath can help restore those functions and inhance mood.
