It’s been a year since the senseless tragedy of a terrible mass murder happened right here in our serene little province. Today will be a day of reflection for me as I remember the names of the fallen, and think back to the horror as it unfolded a year ago.

Look what arrived in the mail??!! I ordered a Pizzelle maker, customized to imprint Latte-Da in the center of each cookie. I’ve been waiting patiently for a chance to try this out, and here is my first result ~ these are thin, wafer like cookies that can be dressed with a dusting of icing sugar, formed into cups to use for a scoop of ice cream, or a little scoop of fresh ricotta and a few fresh berries. These cookies are made with lots of butter, sugar, and fresh eg...gs, are very crisp, and taste similar to waffle cones. I can’t wait to dress them up and serve them to my Latte-Da customers. Yay, the new space for the Market looks awesome, I was there yesterday helping a friend move her booth. I’m just a little jealous that I’m not moving with them...but I’ll have a rockin place myself once we get set up in our storefront. I’ll be there tomorrow as a customer. I can’t miss the first day.

Did you know that our Ashwurks Store at the Market has been packed up and will be moving to a storefront? We’re not moving far, just around the corner in a nice sunny spot on the corner of the same building. We’re expanding our business to include other local artisans and opening a little coffee shop and bistro. One of the benefits of planning a Coffee shop is all of the yummy testing for baked goods! We will be baking a few of our goodies onsite and this recipe is a winner...! Mom’s Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies. They are sweet, nutty (as they have coconut in them), chocolatey and a little bit crispy. Only a few months and you will be able to taste our favourite goodies at our newest venture Latte-Da Coffee Shop, Bistro & Gifts. I have to say, I’m feeling a little emotional this evening, knowing that this will be my last weekend as a Farmers’ Market vendor after many wonderful years at the @hfxseaportmrkt . As I’ve mentioned before, I’ve decided to part with the Market, expand my business, and become a store front in the building where I’ve run my business for 10 years. I won’t be far, so I’m counting on seeing many familiar faces at my new location especially since we hope to fill you all with deli...cious coffees, teas, and baked goodies, and send you home with handcrafted gifts. Yesterday my ‘baby’ turned 22 and I baked his requested lasagne for his Birthday Dinner. This year I used Roma Cheese Ltd. cheeses from the Halifax Seaport Farmers Market, what a difference it made! I grated up scamorza (fresh mozzarella dried for 2 weeks), fresh ricotta, and grated asiago. I am a convert, best lasagne ever! Thank you Ciro and family for you wonderful fresh cheeses, and happy Birthday Matthew. How on earth can you possibly be 22 years old!!!

That there are only three more shopping days at the current location of the Halifax Seaport Farmers’ Market? We are open today 10-2, then the following Sat and Sunday. Ashwurks won’t be moving with the Market as we are expanding our business and product line: we’ll be a coffee and gift shop located in one of the storefronts at the current location. Here we are only a month away from Christmas and, boy o’ boys, how this year has changed everything! You may or not be able to tell from this photo that I have a big sheet of plexiglass shielding my desk, a bottle of spray next to my desk to clean and sanitize after every single customer, a sign asking all customers to wear a mask and use the hand sanitizer before touching anything in my store. I also have replaced plastics with a large... roll of tissue and double waxed paper to protect purchases from the elements. Our store hours have been reduced to less than half of what they are normally, BUT I feel strongly that people’s health is more important than my own convenience. I want to protect myself, my loved ones and my customers so I comply with provincial Covid-19 regulations. I want you all to know that as long as we don’t go to lockdown, I will be remaining open and selling my products here at the Ashwurks Store located at the Market. Remember that I took 2 weeks off from the Market to work on a new project? Well, I was working on making wooden cutlery that you can keep and re-use over and over again! I’ve been on such a big learning curve using new equipment and new attachments to old equipment and I’m SO VERY PLEASED!!!
