Last night was a historic occasion for the Chinese community. After fighting for various forms of protection and recognition of Chinatown for decades, under th...e leadership of the first Chinese woman elected to city council, Cathy Wong and her colleague Robert Beaudry, a declaration of support, recognition and solidarity to Chinatown was unanimously adopted ! 2021 will be a busy year for our community as we set to work on implementing the declaration, to ensure that this neighborhood on unceded indigenous land, remains a place of welcome and inclusion. One of the best ways to fight sinophobia is the official recognition of our rightful place in Québec society. See more

As the world is facing an unprecedented crisis with the COVID-19 pandemic, people’s vulnerabilities have been disproportionally exposed worldwide. This year has... proven that human rights must continue to be at the heart of Canada’s policies and actions. Let’s mark Human Rights Day by acknowledging how important it is that we know and value fundamental rights, and let’s stand up together for human rights in Canada and throughout the world! http://ow.ly/bKv350CHSLa

ATTN: New Brunswick Medicare is offering a one-time coverage extension to individuals experiencing delays with the renewal of immigration documents through Immi...gration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). If your Medicare coverage has expired, please provide the confirmation you received from IRCC showing your name and the date your application was received to [email protected]. If found eligible, your coverage could be extended by six months from the date your previous IRCC documents expired. A letter to this effect will be sent to you in 4-6 weeks. Other important areas of note: - New Brunswick will cover the cost of COVID-19 services for uninsured people who do not meet the criteria for Medicare coverage. This will help to ensure that no one will be discouraged from seeking screening or treatment for COVID-19 for financial reasons. - Medicare is continuing to process Medicare applications, renewals and personal information changes - Please call Service New Brunswick for an appointment time 1-888-762-8600 or visit your local Service New Brunswick Office. In addition, the following statement was provided by IRCC today: To avoid misunderstanding regarding this period of time, IRCC will be changing the language we use with regards to implied status. Public messaging will be changed to explain that this is status extended by law or an automatic extension of status instead of using the term ‘implied’. NBMC will be working with the Department of Health to receive and disseminate a clear explanation of how this recent change at IRCC will impact Medicare coverage for people who are awaiting work-permit renewals. https://www2.gnb.ca//hea/MedicarePrescriptionDrugPlan.html
