Benefits of Intermittent Fasting Hi All! This month we are talking about intermittent fasting. So far, we have discussed what intermittent fasting is, and some different ways to practice it. Today, we want to highlight 4 benefits of intermittent fasting. 1. It can change the function of cells, genes and hormones. Your blood levels of growth hormone may increase; high levels of this hormone facilitate fat burning and muscle gain. The body induces important cellular repair proc...esses such as removing waste material from cells. 2. Fasting can help you to lose weight and belly fat. Generally speaking, intermittent fasting will make you eat fewer meals unless you compensate by eating much more during your meals, you will end up taking in less calories. Short-term fasting actually increases your metabolic rate helping you burn more calories. 3. Intermittent fasting can be good for your brain. Intermittent fasting improves various metabolic features known to be important for brain health. 4. Intermittent fasting could extend your lifespan. Studies have shown that intermittent fasting extends lifespan in a similar way as continuous calorie restriction. Which of these benefits appeals to you the most? Types of Intermittent Fasting Hi Everyone, hope that you are doing well. This month, we are talking about intermittent fasting. Today we are going to talk about the different ways that you can fast intermittently. There are many types of intermittent fasting, but we are going to highlight 3 today. The first and most popular type is the 16/8 method. This means that you fast for 16 hours in a 24-hour period and have an 8-hour window to eat two or three meals. This can be easily... done by finishing up your last meal by 8 o’clock and then eating your first meal at 12pm the next day. For best results, eating healthier meals within the time frame is ideal for potentially losing weight and feeling better overall. The second method is the 5:2 fast. For this method, you eat regularly 5 days of the week, and the other 2 you limit yourself to 500-600 calories/day. The third and final method we are going to talk about today is the Warrior Method. This involves eating small amounts of raw fruits and vegetables during the day and then eating one large meal at night within a 4-hour window. These are just a few different ways that you can practice intermittent fasting. We hope this helped give you a better idea on the different ways to fast. What is Intermittent Fasting? Hello All! Welcome to our first post on intermittent fasting. While some of you are probably familiar with what intermittent fasting is, there are some that have probably never heard of it before; so we are going to give a quick overview of what it is. Intermittent fasting is an eating pattern where you cycle between periods of eating and fasting. There are several different methods to do this (which we will get into on another post). Most people... already fast everyday while they sleep, intermittent fasting is simply extending it a little longer. This may seem daunting to do, however it is fairly easy to adapt to. During the fasting period, you can drink water, coffee or tea as long as they are without additives. Taking supplements is generally allowed while fasting, as long as there are no calories in them. We hope that this answered some questions you may have on the topic and we’ll be sure to answer more in our upcoming posts. If you do have any questions, leave them in the comments and we will be sure to answer them as they arise.
