WE HAVE NEWS: BIG, BIG NEWS: It is with bursting hearts that we can finally say that we’ve found our forever farm for Aslan Organics! After more than a year of waiting, searching, and praying for a place to put down deep roots for our family and business, we have finally found the perfect place. This property is exactly what we envisioned when we left the BC farm in December of 2019. The waiting hasn’t been easy, as this world wide pandemic has taught all of us. And many tim...es, it felt like all hope was lost. But this time, in this place, it’s the real thing. A place to call home for a very long time and we can’t wait for it to unfold. Tomorrow afternoon we will launch our Farm-Share boxes to the Sarnia area, where you can subscribe weekly to our fresh delicious veggies. Details on our website to come (link in bio). There’s tons to do and lots of hard work needed, but our hearts burst with gratitude for this opportunity and for those who initially designed this little homestead. This property is complete with mature fruit trees, hedgerows (for wildlife), and ancient oak trees that carry stories older than the record books. It is a land abundant with life, and eager to contribute to our holistic future here as a family and community. We hope that you’ll consider joining us as we forge ahead in what we’ve dreamt of for so long! With love! -Shane, Emma, Ira, and Maren

I pre-ordered this a few weeks ago, when @jeanmartinfortier mentioned it on the @notillgrowers live feed, hosted by @josh.sattin. I immediately went to @growersandco in order to get one of the first copies, because we’ve done nothing but benefit from the scholarship granted to us in the spring of 2018 to @themarketgardeners Masterclass. The depth of wisdom and knowledge we’ve gained from that class is immeasurable. And, with Farmer Jesse of @roughdraftfarmstead and our favourite artist @gregoryalanisakov in the same episode, we couldn’t say no. Our favourite thing about people like JM and The No Till Market Garden podcast (and their tremendous guests), is that they continue to share discoveries and lessons from being in the field as farmers. #iamagrower

If you’ve ever wondered where my love for straight rows came from, this is a shot of my dads rows of potatoes. Just like his love of straight rows rubbed off on me, my love of growing food has rubbed off on him. This is his first ever attempt at growing potatoes, and I couldn’t be more damn proud of him. It’s true, we differ on some major points in our lives, but some of the most central and important between us remain the same. To me, that’s what makes a relationship important. Thanks, Dad, for everything you’ve taught me and for how you give me hope by surprising me in new ways.

We’re trying to stay true to our most important values during this time of transition and rest. So patching up our very first farm book last night felt right on target. New elastic courtesy of @cunningroze (who has been crushing the mask game, by the way. We’re all thankful for them, so thank you Emma). Some fresh tape where the edges were coming apart. More tape along the binding because farm books enduring a lot during summer months in the field. But now? Good to go for ano...ther few months. Rereading these books to glean a better future for our farm is extremely emotional. From the incredible successes of our greens and cherry tomatoes, to the heart wrenching 100% rot loss of 550lbs of gorgeous white onions no-one got to taste. That’s such a reflection of how COVID has felt. Extremely terrible days, followed by deep gratitude for so much uninterrupted time with family. This is just a fraction of the enlightenment our family has experienced during COVID (not all of it being good, by the way.) Insane how differently our world looks than six months ago. What is the top thing you have learned during these past six months?
