I really want you to think about this concept. Toys with a lot of buttons and are battery operated often entertain a child. They do the work the child (talk for them, make noises for them, sing songs). Simple, non-battery operated, open-ended toys allow for a child to explore different ways to play. They can try new ideas, they create the sounds and words and songs, and they will use these toys as the grow older since they can use the toys in a different way as the...y develop! Here is an example. Think about a fire truck toy. : A firetruck that uses batteries and has so many different buttons: sirens, sounds, the ladder goes up and down, and it drives by itself. WOW! Super entertaining, right? But what did your child have to do during that play? : A wooden or plastic firetruck. No batteries, no buttons. It just sits there? Not at all! Your child then has to push the firetruck, make the siren sounds, pretend a ladder goes up and down. ’ - ? ’ ! See more

I am proud to now say I run a successful private practice as my full time career! Have questions or want to talk private practice? Reach out!
