Today our students participated in a virtual Remembrance Day ceremony, led by our student emcees. They shared the story of an incredible art installation in London where over 20,000 volunteers installed over 800,000 ceramic poppies in the moat at the Tower of London. Each poppy represented a British soldier lost during World War I. The grade 9 class had been inspired by this installation and chose to create 1566 origami poppies to represent each day of the war as part of thei...r art and poetry unit focused on Remembrance Day. They strung these poppies across the ceiling of the MYP Hall as a powerful visual representation of the years of sacrifice. Earlier this week, our Grade 2’s spent the afternoon cleaning up Departure Bay Beach as part of their unit on Making a Difference in our Community. Our students were inspired to help out after learning about the problems we are facing surrounding proper disposal of waste, and the amount of plastic floating in our oceans. We are so proud of our students for taking action, and being responsible global citizens.
