These marks in the dirt of a crawl space look like an aerial view of a river delta. This is because this was a miniature river when the crawl space last flooded. the entire back yard was like a giant funnel directed towards the home. Not very cherry news for my buyers today.

This was found sifting out of a crack in a cinder block garage today. This is vermiculite which is harmless. Unfortunately most of the samples from older homes and garages contain asbestos as a contaminant which is a very dangerous carcinogen. There is no safe minimal exposure to this type of asbestos. Removal in this case would be near impossible or of course very expensive. These are some of the hazards found when looking at homes and garages built in 1946.

You are wondering what you are looking at. So was I . This $800,000.00 new infill home has a flat roof over the front door and the builder applied roofing shingles to the flat roof. Some mistakes are so ridiculous that you wonder if the builder needs help tying his shoes in the morning. Shingles cannot be used on a slope below 2 in 12 or they will leak. Every day something new and astonishing.

It is still alive!. This is knob and tube wiring and it is still in use in a 1908 home I inspected recently. Whether it is still safe is a whole other question.
