Boundaries = Respect When we hold ourselves and others accountable for setting and maintaining boundaries, it demonstrates and commands respect. This is the fundamental foundation for building trust in relationships. Healthy boundaries help to define the terms of the relationship and shows others how we expect and deserve to be treated. ... Boundaries are an important component of self care! Adults are responsible for setting and maintaining their own boundaries. Kids have boundaries too, and as safe adults, it’s our responsibility to help model and demonstrate healthy boundaries to children. Sunday-slowdown We often wear ‘busyness’ as a badge of honour. For many, it becomes a way of being as we get caught up in the activities and obligations of daily life. Many people equate being busy with being successful, but that’s not always the case. Being busy can also be a way to numb and avoid. Dedicating all our time and energy to work, school or family leaves us with very little time to focus inward. Slowing down helps us to reconnect with our thoughts and feelings. ...If we are unhappy or unsatisfied with our circumstances, slowing down can feel scary. Being intentional about slowing down is a great way to practice healthy boundaries. When we make peace with saying ‘no’ to activities that don’t enrich our lives, we have more time to focus on the things that truly matter.
