The Canada Summer Jobs program is a federal government program designed to provide incentives to employers to hire young people for the summer. The program is open to both private employers and non-profit organizations with 50 or fewer full-time employees. The Canadian federal government will provide wage subsidies to employers when they create summer employment opportunities for young people between the ages of 15 and 30. In light of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the govern...ment has amended the Canada Summer Jobs program regulations as follows: Previously private employers would receive 50% of wage subsidy, whereas now they will receive a wage subsidy of up to 75% of the provincial minimum hourly wage. While the program previously only applied to the summer months, it has now been amended so that employers may offer job placements between April 26, 2021, and February 26, 2022. In the past, wage subsidies were only provided for full-time summer youth, the amended program now offers wage subsidies for part-time summer youth (fewer than 30 hours per week). Applications to the Canada Summer Jobs program are due by January 29, 2021.
