A Step Back In Time Walking Tour 15.03.2021

The Erie and Ontario Railroad received a loan of 25,000 pounds in 1854 from the Town of Niagara, to extend the railway from Chippawa to Niagara. (NOTL). The lin...e opened on June 24, 1854. It was the third steam railway to operate in Upper Canada.A station with passenger and freight facilities had been constructed on the wharf at Niagara (NOTL). The attached map shows the line going down King Street to the Dockyard. The train connected with passengers from the Steam Ships. It was also at this time when ice coming down the river would damage our dockyards. Now prevented by the boom up river. See more
