Thank you, Lady Lavender! . As a self-published author, these reviews are not only crucial for legitimizing my work to potential readers but also for keeping the wind in my sails. . And yes, Lady Lavender, this will be a series of books. I promise you this. ... . As I write the sequel to this series, I am often revisiting The Guardian to pick up on Easter eggs and foreshadowing elements that will come to fruition or be carried through Book 2. I find myself critiquing my first book, most often discovering sentences I wish I would have worded differently. . It’s reviews like this that remind me how great my story is. Sure, there may be repeated words here and there, sentences I could have written differently, places and people described with more detail, but I need to recognize that these would be improvements on an already great story. My fear of imperfection has often kept me small, kept me from sharing accomplishments, and has at times even kept me from pursuing things I desire. . I love writing, and my experience with it has become more than just storytelling. Every written word is a war waged against imposter syndromemy most insidious enemy. . I’m proud of my book. I was proud when I released it, and I’ve let that pride dwindle as I write and edit book 2. Thank you for giving me the little permission I needed to feel proud again, Lady Lavender. . #writer #writersofinstagram #writingcommunity #writing #writersofig #writings #kindle #kindleunlimited #kindlebooks #kindlepaperwhite #author #authorsofinstagram #authorlife #authorlove #impostersyndrome #creative #creativity See more

Happy Valentine’s Day, everyone! My partner Brittany and I made homemade heart-shaped pizzas and binge-watched some Schitt’s Creek! How were your days? On a book-related note, Phyllida Davenport from the UK gave me (as an author) one of the greatest gifts. ... See her review below! As a new indie author, I’m always battling imposter syndrome. This review certainly helped me win today. Reviews are VERY beneficial for my credibility, too, so I appreciate her and everyone else who's taken the time to do so. (Note: not sure why her review only populated today, as it was written on Jan 3rd. Either way, thank you, Phyllida!) See more

Here's what readers are saying about The Guardian: "If you are a fan of fantasy... look no further than The Guardian, where no ink is wasted and the world cries out to be experienced."... "This book was an exceptional read that introduced me to a rich and well-developed world, somewhat reminiscent of both the Middle Ages and Ancient Rome..." "Just when I assumed I knew what was going to happen, there was a twist that elevated the plot beyond one of entertainment to one of purpose." "Creative and thoughtfully written! I’ve wanted long hair for most of my life. To no fault but my own, it’s taken 32 years for me to let it grow out. . I’d started many times but always cut it at various grow-out stagesthe weird hedgehog look, the shaggy ‘69 Beatles look, the bowl-cut look, the mullet (which some confidently rock, unlike me). . Social pressures presented concerns for me, too. ... You look like a hippie. People will think you’re girly. You look unprofessional. . A switch flicked in my mind when I began formulating my main protagonist, Gauthak, for my The Guardian novel. I based his character’s history, culture, beliefs, and lifestyle off traditional indigenous history, culture, beliefs, and lifestyle. I discovered a wealth of wonderful beliefs, and one of these many revolved around hairspecifically, the braid. . Although it varies slightly across indigenous regions, the braid, known as The Life Braid, predominantly symbolizes the connectedness of The Mind, The Body, and The Spirit. . I did my best and will continue to do my best throughout the series, to imbue the importance and reverence of the braid into my writingfor Gauthak’s sake, and to ask our society to reflect on our perception of long hair on men. I’ve struggled to let my hair grow long, and I have no spiritual attachment to its length. I cannot imagine how painful and shameful this struggle might be for indigenous males who have an innate spiritual connection to their Life Braid. This, to me, is an injustice that compassion and understanding can easily fix. . I hope this post finds you well and inspires compassionate reflections. . Braid and photo credit: @brittany.902

Happy Saturday everyone, Today I had the wonderful opportunity of speaking with Steve Bujold on his podcast, Downhome Corner.
