What are the advantages of being a member of ATIS? All members of ATISboth associate and certifiedare listed in the directory on the ATIS Web site. It is an excellent way to promote yourself to prospective clients. ATIS members are also welcome to attend the annual general meeting in May and the fall meeting in November and the workshops during these meetings. Members can also take advantage of reduced rates for courses given by other provincial associations and certain org...anizations dedicated to professional development in our industry. Most importantly, being a member of ATIS helps to foster high professional standards in translation and interpretation services in Saskatchewan. ATIS certified translators and interpreters are members by affiliation of the Canadian Translators, Terminologists and Interpreters Council (CTTIC). The status of certified member is portable among all CTTIC member bodies. Certified translators are able to translate official documents such as birth certificates and university transcripts.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT WORKSHOP FOR TRANSLATORS with Frances Peck from Vancouver! What translator doesn’t harbour strong feelings about verbs? Love them or hate them, there’s no ignoring this essentialand sometimes trickypart of the sentence. In this workshop, designed specifically for translators, we’ll explore the most common errors in verb tense, focusing onperfect tens es and the conditional. We’ll also cover verb mood (including the subjunctive) and voice (active versus passive). Along the way, we’ll discuss the conventions of tense in specific types of writing (e.g., journalistic, scientific, literary, analytical) and the delicate balance ofkeepin g tense, voice and mood consistent. Free for ATIS members

Are you interested in becoming a MEMBER? To become a member of ATIS, you must first pass the admission exam to become an associate members. Associate members can then apply for the certification process, after meeting certain criteria. ATIS Admission Exam... To become an associate member of ATIS, you must attend a mandatory information session and pass a translation exam. The information session explains the role of ATIS, the translation profession, the certification process and the code of ethics enforced by ATIS. The information session is free and is held in Regina in February and Saskatoon in September. Those who have attended the information session in the past are not required to attend it again but are encouraged to do so. The translation exam is then held approximately one month later in March in Regina and October in Saskatoon. The fee for writing the translation exam is $200 and must be paid online by the stated deadline. Becoming an associate member of ATIS is your first step to becoming a certified translator. The translation exam involves the translation of one text of a general nature which is approximately 175-200 words in length in your chosen language combination. Please note that it is recommended to write the exam from your additional language into your mother tongue. You have two hours to complete the test and may bring any written reference material you wish to use. Computers or electronic devices or materials are not permitted. You are not required to write the translation exam immediately following the information session. Practice exam texts can be found here.
