Join us next week on Wednesday, December 9, 2020 at 7pm (AST), when the RNSHS will host Col. (Ret'd) John L. Orr, Volunteer Researcher at the Shearwater Aviatio...n Museum, for a virtual public presentation entitled 'Seven Flags Over Shearwater'. Shearwater, located on the eastern shore of Halifax harbour, has made a major, although largely unrecognized, contribution to aviation in Canada. Since its inception in 1918, the air station has served under a variety of commands and services hence ‘Seven Flags’ in the title. All are welcome! If the occupation of pilots was opened to women in 1979, how did Wendy Clay, a doctor in Canada’s military, get her wings in 1974? Watch this #ThrowbackThursda...y tribute to her as part of #WHM2020. S1 Jordan Ilareguy #ForHerCountry #BecauseofYou #WomensHistoryMonth

Check out our September #SAR Spotlight! While we commemorate the #BattleofBritain80 this month, we'll also be highlighting the vital role that the Royal Canadia...n Air Force plays in support to Search and Rescue efforts across Canada. We're starting #today with a question we've asked you in past: how do they get all that equipment and those people into the Cormorant? Answer: #RCAF #TetrisChallenge! 442 Transport and Rescue Squadron's SAR helicopters are packed full of lifesaving equipment and a crew of five to help search for and rescue Canadians whenever called upon to do so #ThatOthersMayLive. Can you identify all the pieces of equipment below? Good luck! #Canada #19Wing #Rescue Canadian Armed Forces Canadian Armed Forces Operations
Billy Mink says... It sure has been lonely around the Museum this summer without any visitors. My favourite day is Saturday, that’s when it feels like the Museum comes back to life with people! Drop in any Saturday from 10:00am-4:00pm for a visit and a look around!

While at the museum last night our little groundhog, yet to be named, came out to give us some help with the yard work. Thanks buddy.

A foggy start to the day here at the Atlantic Canada Aviation Museum! Some of you may drive by our CF-101 Voodoo daily and wonder what it’s all about... the Voodoo was an all-weather aircraft tasked with protecting Canada from enemy bombers during the Cold War; intercepting many Soviet bombers off Canadian soil on a regular basis. This aircraft was fairly fast and could empty fuel tanks in 8 minutes! It had a crew of 2, the pilot and the radar operator and it could carry 2 guided missiles or 2 nuclear tipped rockets. The paint scheme on this aircraft was special for the closing out of the Voodoo operations in 1984. 416 Lynx Squadron was based in #Chatham #NewBrunswick #acam #aircraft #cf101 #voodoo #coldwar #protectingcanada #museum #halifax #novascotia #lynxsquadron #canada #plane #airplane #atlanticbubble #opensaturdays #explorens
The CF-100 is the only jet-fighter that was designed and built in Canada that saw service with the military; it is subsonic and considered the best all weather aircraft of its day!
Good morning Nova Scotia!! It’s going to be another hot one today!Make sure you are staying out of the sun and drinking lots of water to keep yourself cool
