Remembrance Day wreaths 2020. An unusually warm weather day but well enjoyed by all at the Legion ceremony at the cenotaph.

Atlantic Memorial Park Project 15.11.2020

REMEMBRANCE DAY - As we all enjoy and share, with our treasured family, friends and relatives, this beautiful and peaceful country of Canada, let us take time, once again, to remember and honor all those who have sacrificed so much in times of conflict in defence of the freedom and democracy that we all enjoy today. Lest we forget!

Mission Accomplished. Flags flying!

Atlantic Memorial Park Project 13.06.2020

We are so overwhelmed with the generosity shown to our Project by Sarah MacDonald-Miles! Sarah has been crafting The Guardian bracelets for us as a special fundraiser through her Links of Love business. Sarah continuously fundraises for many other different charities as well. We are so very impressed with this young lady who is serving as a role model for other youth by highlighting the importance of educating Canadians about the contributions of our military personnel ...overseas and on the homefront during both World Wars and various other important conflicts. Sarah has a deep family connection to our military history as her great grandfather was in the Merchant Marines and Sarah herself is a member of Sea Cadets. It is truly remarkable that she has such an invested interest in our Project and has taken it upon herself to fundraise for us. THANK YOU SARAH!! See more

A huge thank you is in order to all the volunteers who spent best part of their day on grounds keeping duties at the Atlantic Memorial Park. We had a busy day picking up rocks and raking around the Command Post building, whipper snipping, brush clearing, mowing inside the fenced area as well as the paths to Neils Woods and clearing weeds at the interpretive sign near the bridge at Edwards Pond. The Whole place looks absolutely amazing. Kudos everyone on a job well done!

**** MAJOR MILESTONE REACHED!! **** Through the continuous efforts of many as well as the generosity of our donors, the AMP Society is pleased to announce the c...ompletion of Phase One of the Atlantic Memorial Park!!! Over 250 donors have contributed to the project which has enabled the AMP Society to contribute $80,734 towards the $1,108,717 cost for Phase One. Government agencies have provided the rest of the funding. The list of donors can be found on our website at Ampheroes.ca. The successful restoration includes: - The beautifully restored Command post building. - Security and safety fencing around the site. - A public washroom building. - A multi-use trail from the Lockmans Beach area to the Command Post. - Protective fencing and signage around a pioneer cemetery near the site. The AMP Society is in the process of obtaining ownership of the beautiful seaside property required to proceed with the next phases of the Atlantic Memorial Park. The Cape Breton Regional Municipality ( CBRM) has committed to transfer their 110 acre parcel to the AMP Society. A similar arrangement is being sought for a 10 acre parcel owned by the Nova Scotia Government. The NS parcel is required to construct a parking lot at the beginning of the multi-use trail to enable Phase One to be accessed by visitors. The parking lot will cost approximately $120,000. To date, the AMP Society has raised $15,000 and the CBRM has committed $25,000 for a total of $40,000. We will have to raise an additional $80,000. There will be a number of fund raising efforts undertaken to achieve this amount but, as in the past year, individual donations will be critical to our success. Any donations to the Park would be most appreciated and we welcome your ongoing support! Donations by cheque should be addressed to the AMP Society and mailed to Robert Blinkhorn, 60 Mae Avenue, Sydney Mines N.S. B1V 3J1. E-transfers can be accepted as well and these can be submitted to [email protected] Tax receipts will be provided. We are planning to open the Command Post to visitors next year ( 2021) and are seeking volunteers in the following areas to help us get prepared: - Marketing - Artifact sourcing and Command Post preparation - Student guides and volunteer story telling - Site Management and revenue collection processes If you are interested in any of the above areas, please contact Brian Ferguson at [email protected] or Cyril Aker at [email protected] for further information. THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR YOUR CONTINUED SUPPORT!!

The vessel is on a tour of coastal communities as a show of support during the Covid 19 Pandemic. Also thinking today about the tragedy that has happened with regards to our military personnel serving aboard the HMCS Fredericton in the Mediterranean.
