She has over 15 years of clinical leadership roles in both government and nongovernment agencies, as well as private practice. She has holds an advanced Masters of Music Therapy, and a PhD in Leadership and Change which studied culture shock and personal transformation in music thera...py humanitarian work in war affected regions. She is a Fellow of the Association of Music and Imagery, has an advanced degree in Guided Imagery and Music. Dr. Woodward has presented her work internationally in the UK, Japan, Argentina, Canada, Bosnia, Italy, and the USA and has several published journal articles and book reviews in Voices and The Arts in Psychotherapy. Dr. Woodward has taught in Canada and has held directorship positions in Ireland, Pennsylvania and Iowa, and is a member of the Canadian Music Therapy Association (CAMT), the American Music Therapy Association (AMTA), the Irish Association of Creative Arts Therapies (IACAT) and the Music Therapy Association of British Columbia (MTABC). She continues to serve on several review boards of major peer-reviewed journals in Norway, Canada, USA and the online Forum ‘Voices’. Her professional certification is Music Therapist Certified (MTA), through CAMT.

Register now! https://www.atlanticmusictherapy.ca/conference Deborah Seabrook, PhD, is a music therapy educator, clinician, and scholar currently teaching in the School of Music at Acadia University in Wolfville, Nova Scotia and the Department of Creative Arts Therapies at Concordia University in Montréal, Québec. Deborah’s FRQSC and SSHRC-funded doctoral research examined music improvisation to promote mental health, producing a grounded theory about t...he relationship among music therapy, community music, and music performance practices. Deborah’s scholarship advances interdisciplinary social justice perspectives on music therapy. Deborah is a founding and current member of the Equity Advisory Council to the Canadian Association of Music Therapists. Deborah recently articulated an eco music therapy approach to address contemporary needs posed by the climate crisis. A music therapist for the past 15 years, Deborah has had the privilege of working with people from a wide variety of lived experiences, including women and children survivors of trauma and abuse, children and adults with mental health issues, and adults in palliative care. After receiving her Bachelors in Music Therapy at Acadia University she completed her internship with Arpeggio Music Therapy, giving her the opportunity to work with infants, individuals living with mental illness as well as young expecting and parenting women. With a person-centred therapy approach, Cathe...rine aims to support the collaborative process of creativity, self-expression and self-empowerment through music. As a singer-songwriter, she is passionate about helping people find their own unique voice through improvisation and songwriting. Sarah Bell was born and raised in Caledon, Ontario. She pursued music therapy in Montreal and in her masters studied Indigenous healing traditions and connections with music therapy. In her internship she worked with women living with mental illness, Indigenous men and women and people living in transitional housing. Sarah loves helping empower people through music and tapping into their inner child. She is currently doing work on the Equity Advisory Council, EAC and living the life in L'Arche a community for people with different intellectual abilities.

The Mostar Project: Music Therapy in the Midst of a Humanitarian Crisis and Beyond Post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), cultural identity disintegration, political unrest and confusion, economic devastation, individual and family stress, rampant corruption, and unresolved inter-ethnic conflict are just some of the complex challenges that citizens in war affected areas grapple with. Music Therapy was one of the few consistent psychosocial support services available to citizens in Bosnia and Herzegovina in the years following the brutal wars of the 90s. Alpha will share highlights of the Mostar Project, personal narratives and a broader perspective of music therapy as a humanitarian service in a messy contemporary world.
