SUMMER EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY DFO-Nova Scotia Mi'kmaq Aboriginal Internship Program Application Deadline: Wednesday, February 24, 2021... The Mi’kmaq Rights Initiative through the Kwilmu’kw Maw-klusuaqn Negotiation Office (KMKNO) in collaboration with Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) are seeking applications from eligible students for the summer Internship Program. Please see below for more details regarding this opportunity. Screening Process: Screening of applications will take place after the application deadline, and only those applicants who have been successfully screened into the process will be invited for an interview. Notification of acceptance into the screening process will take place via email or telephone. Interviews will be conducted by an Assessment Board comprised of KMKNO and DFO staff members. Employer: All successful candidates will be employed with Fisheries and Oceans Canada (Government of Canada). Locations: Regional Headquarters in Dartmouth, as well as Area Offices in Southwest Nova Scotia (Yarmouth) and Eastern Nova Scotia (Sydney). Telework arrangements and other locations in Nova Scotia may be considered, and can be discussed with successful candidates once screening has been completed. Work Terms: Full-time (37.5 hours per week), for a period of up to 90 working days from May to August, or early September, 2021. Wages will be based on an annual salary of $46,097. Eligibility: Applicants must be a person who is a member of a Nova Scotia Mi'kmaq community and starting, or returning to, university/college in September 2021. In addition, candidates who are selected for the internship will be required to go through a mandatory security screening process, including fingerprints. Are currently attending a recognized post-secondary program or graduating high school, and are enrolling or are enrolled in a recognized university or college program for the 2021-2022 academic year. Have experience using computer software programs, including, but not limited to: virtual meeting software, email, internet, Microsoft suite of programs (i.e., Word, Excel, Powerpoint). Have strong written and oral communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, supervisors and the general public in a professional manner. Applicants must demonstrate that they are able to effectively share, understand, and respond to information and the viewpoints of others. Have the ability to produce clear and concise written material, such as emails, reports and other formal documentation. Are able to work effectively with a team, and have strong collaboration skills. Can demonstrate initiative and the ability to thrive in new and changing work environments and situations.
