Pretty safe to say winter may be here to stay. While bike lanes are closed Nov 15 to May 1 those who are interested are still able to ride! It's important to keep the environment in mind and adjust accordingly to ensure a safe and comfortable experience and this article from Bicycling Magazine has some great information on maintaining a bike in the winter months. Stay safe! https://www.bicycling.com//7-easy-ways-to-winterize-your-/

What a beautiful day! With the weather getting nicer, more people may want to enjoy the multi-use trail networks. Please remember to maintain the COVID19 2 metre physical distancing requirement and avoid gathering in groups. To those who cycle on the trails, please let pedestrians know you're coming by using your bell or calling out. Being aware of your surroundings helps to ensure everyone can enjoy the nice days on multi-use trails. For more information, check out the multi-use trail page at https://www.thunderbay.ca//recreation/multi-use-trails.aspx#
Reminder: With the bicycle lanes open for the 2020 season it is prohibited to park vehicles inside the lane. Effective until November 14, 2020.
In honour of National Public Works Week, learn about the City of Thunder Bay’s Active Transportation network, which is an important public works service: The Ci...ty’s Active Transportation network is an effort by several sections including planning and construction by Parks & Open Spaces and Engineering and maintained generally by Roads. Engineering is responsible for delivering the City’s Active Transportation Plan. The Active Transportation Plan provides policies and programs and identifies network improvements that will encourage and support active transportation through 2048. The Active Transportation network consists of many types of infrastructure such as bike lanes, cycle tracks, sidewalks, multi-use trails as well as quiet streets that provide a safe, comfortable experience for cyclists and pedestrians. Safe crossings for pedestrians and cyclists at barriers such as rivers, railways, and busy arterial streets at key locations are also an important focus of the priority Active Transportation networks.
