Gord Kapeller for your next President 16.10.2021

Hello all, It seems I need to clarify my statement on lost Time. I believe executive positions are volunteer positions which are elected. Table officers receive an honorarium. Honorariums are paid to people who volunteer their services as a thank-you. My comments on paying 3 hours for a morning meeting, is based on the assumption that the people involved are not working during the time of the evening meeting. If they were working a night shift then the reverse would apply. 3hrs for night meeting and morning is on your own time. It is no surprise that the city is trying to bankrupt our union. We need not help them by spending unnecessarily on things we can control. Gord Kapeller

Brothers and Sisters of ATU615, I have been asked by a few people what are the issues are that i want to bring to light if I was to be your President. I would like to highlight a few here for you. 1) The lack of information that comes from our leadership now... - over the last few years we've been asked to fill out surveys that we have never gotten the results from. - We've been asked to vote in favor of a contract with no information until 5 minutes before voting. - Months and months of contract bargaining without ever knowing what was proposed by either side. - Arbitration loses that brushed over like it never happened. Only the victories are well reported. 2) Union Spending - Arbitration is expensive and sometimes necessary. When us as members are asked to dig deeper into our pockets and pat an extra $25 per pay cheque. I would expect that the executive would try to cut costs in other areas. We the 400 members have contributed $960,000 dollars to the defense fund in the last 4 years alone. Our defense fund balance is approximately $30,000 of the last regular meeting. 3) Lost Time - Lost time is the time that we pay our executives to be away from their positions to attend conferences, training and meetings that are not covered by the city - our lost time bill from the city averages $7,000-$9,000 per month that's approx $96,000 per year - Can we cut all lost time? No, but instead of sending 4 to a conference we could send two or one. I know our bylaws permit the number of delegates that go. However, good stewardship could dictate that until our fiances improve we limit the amount of lost time taken that isn't completely necessary. For example: on union meeting days, pay lost time from 9am until 12pm that is 3 hours of lost time per person instead of 8. I hope that by leading this membership, we can start a dialog and get more people involved. Get more information into your hands sooner, so you can make better decisions in guiding our decisions as an executive. I am a firm believer that as an elected representative I am accountable to you the membership. I am to be the voice of your direction and the Strength of your resolve. If you have any questions please feel free to talk to me. I would be very interested in hearing you opinion, good or bad, for all opinions are valid. Gord Kapeller
