Keeping the history alive.
Auchmar House written by Evelyn Grayson Buchanan - Granddaughter to Isaac and Agnes Buchanan She refers to herself in this story as Eleanor... Written in 1965 A Memoir of the Imagination Part 8 Several smaller buildings were going up in the park while the great house was in the making. Beyond the stone arch that was itself so real an achievement on the part of the stone mason, although not so high an arch as the much bigger one halfway down the avenue - beyond the smaller arch to the east there was the stable and barn and carriage house all combined in a delightful stone building that was one day to be rebuilt for quite other use - this too had gothic gables and like the great house was so well built that it seemed to grow right up out of the ground on which it stood. Beyond this fine building was a stone pigeon house. This little structure was the first of all finished and the pigeons were promptly installed in residence. Both because the laird loved the sound of their mournful "coo coo" and because he felt encouraged by their residence that the great house would one day be finished. Below is a sketch from the Wentworth Landmarks book from 1897 of the dovecote at Clairmont Park.

This week's video! Now, this is one thing I always point out because I find it truly fascinating! There would have been another one at the other end of the corridor as well but it's been lost over the years so the fact we still have one left is very important! https://youtu.be/clT7VBz39-U
