Masks and hearing aids (Sorry for the choppy video!)

Audiology First 22.11.2020

We have seen an uptick in lost hearing aids. This is likely because masks that loop behind the ear may pull the hearing aids off the ear when removing the mask. Please take care when removing your mask so you do not lose your hearing aids!

Phone use tips for hearing aid users: If you are not hearing well during phone calls, or someone you know is not hearing you well on the phone, the phone speaker should line up with the microphones of the hearing aid. With most hearing aids that sit on top or behind the ear, these microphones are on the top towards the front of the hearing aids. Hold the phone nearer the top of your hear, rather than at the normal position, and send the sound through the hearing aid. ... If your hearing aid is moulded to the shape of your ear, and sits fully inside the ear, holding the phone to the normal position (at the canal) is the best method. Get someone you trust to practice talking to you over your preferred phone and move the handset around to find the best position that gives you the best hearing. Practice lifting the phone a little higher above the ear! Its a difficult habit to break!

Oticon Opn S test

Audiology First 17.02.2020

We have some exciting new hearing aids from Oticon and so naturally I am putting them to the test. The Oticon Opn S 1 hearing aids from Oticon boast improved feedback (whistling) management amongst other things. Feedback is a problem whenever we have a hearing aid that is trying to stay comfortable and powerful enough at the same time. These hearing aids claim to be able to reduce feedback very quickly, even before it can be heard. Im going to push them to see what has improved over the previous model, which was already quite excellent at feedback reduction. Ill post some other info soon on how my tests go.
