Why should you use toe spreaders? . The toes are designed to spread wide and grip the floor while walking, running, standing and dancing. Gripping wide helps to engage the small but mighty muscles in the arch of your foot. Stronger muscles = better force/impact transfers. This means more endurance for walking, better run times, less achiness with standing and better balance for dancers. . Spend some time walking, standing, sitting and doing heel raises/releves with your toe ...spreaders on. How does it feel? Try to think about spreading toes wide and gripping when you are not wearing toe spreaders. Side note: modern footwear and most dance shoes (hello pointe shoes) don't allow for much toe spreading action, definitely make sure that you spend time in bare feet and/or find shoes with a wide toe box to allow your toes to move freely. Having lots of variety in your foot movement and footwear can help to stave off foot pain and problems . . . Do you live in Ontario, Canada? You can book with me online or in person. Pain is a signal for change . Dancing should challenge you but it shouldn't hurt. Pain is a complex subject and cannot be discussed all in one post. As a general rule of thumb, if you are experiencing pain something has got to change. You can't continue doing the same things over and over expecting to get results or to experience something different. . There are so many options when it comes to tackling pain. The list above is not exhaustive. If you don't know where to star...t, a physiotherapist can help. They are trained in figuring out what your body (and mind ) needs to start feeling and performing better. . Are you a dancer that lives in Ontario, Canada? You can book with me online or in person.
