#travelhistory Israel - Northern Masada Palace - Herod's magnificent winter palace, built on three rock steps overlooking the Judea desert. Influenced by the Hellenistic and Roman architecture, the great herod built two palaces for himself on the mountain and fortified Masada 'i (mdh) between 37-31 BC.... According to Roman historian Josephus, the siege of the Roman army on the table at the end of the "Jewish-Roman war" (73 to 74) ended the collective suicide of the Jewish rebels hiding here. Desperate war on themselves on the mountain - become a symbol of the struggle for freedom. Source: @historyandarcheology #historicplaces #architecture #history #travel
