WEEKEND CHALLENGE: SKINNAMA-RINK Each year the Canadian winters make it possible to go outside for ice skating. Sometimes with a little help from the volunteers who build public rinks and maintain it all season long or a personal, homemade rink in the yard, a frozen pond, or even a frozen patch of ice in a field. Name it and as soon as the weather allows, we see people finding their way to the ice to practice their first ‘careful steps’ behind a chair or holding onto mommy/da...ddy’s hand, score another unforgettable goal in an exciting, friendly match of hockey or improving their braking skills while trying to cover their friends with snow. In the end it doesn’t matter where you skate as long as you have fun! And the weather forecast is promising for this weekend! Its supposed to be nice and sunny Saturday, with light snow on Sunday - great conditions for ice skating. So put on your warm clothes and enjoy one of the many opportunities to get some exercise and have some fun! And don’t forget to post a picture on your timeline and tag Augusta Township's Facebook page or share it in the comments below! Have fun!
REMINDER: The Township office will be closing at noon today, Thursday, December 24th and will reopen again on Monday, January 4, 2021. If you have any concerns regarding Township roads/snow plowing, please call the Public Works Garage at (613) 926-2002. To report urgent safety and infrastructure matters that cannot wait (e.g. a tree has fallen down on/over a Township road or a road is flooding) you can call the After Hour Line at 613-348-3455 ext. 311.
TRAIL & ICE RINKS UPDATE - JAN 12/21 North Augusta's rink is currently CLOSED until further notice due to the warm temperatures. Lights have now been installed to make night-time skating until 8pm possible once it reopens (flooding happens starting at 8pm). MERC's rink is also CLOSED until further notice. The trails have been groomed and available for use. Maynard's rink has been set up and flooded so it will available for use once the weather cooperates. Cedar St. ...Park rink will not be opening this season as we don't have volunteers to set up and maintain it this year. We apologize for the inconvenience. If you are interested in volunteering, please email the Community Development & Recreation Coordinator Matthijs van der Veen at [email protected]. ----------------------------------------------- NOTE: Face coverings and physical distancing from those outside your household are required at all times. A maximum of 10 people can be on the ice at one time. Team sports such as hockey are not permitted. See more
